Veithimathr (pronounced Vede-madr) is Old Norse for "Huntsman", which sums up my interests and is a useful username since it has never been used before :-)
Growing up in a small town made me an outdoorsy type that enjoys hunting and fishing. Seeing the world while in the Navy made me enjoy what city life has to offer as well. I'm comfortable sitting in front of a camp fire or going to a favorite play. My favorite thing is to enjoy doing activities with my wife and kids during my off time.
I'm looking at late season archery hunts for deer now. Still have a cow tag to fill in 32. Been out pheasant hunting with some success. Been doing more work than play lately so time in the field has been limited. How bout you?
I bagged a small buck this year - my first in four years. Elk hunting was not as I was hoping, but am optimistic for next season. I'm turning my focus to coyote hunting, now. My brother and I went up out of Weiser yesterday and hammered one - called at least four in on the only set up we did. We only saw two, but watching the video later we found four coyotes in the screen! If you go to our website tomorrow I'm going to put the video of that hunt up. It was fun - but cold and snowy!
Elk hunting was a wash, and the day after season my bow broke. Looking forward to the deer season this weekend. I'll be hunting right near my place in Midvale. Side note: Spotted a wolf not 300yards from the house last weekend. My dogs have been acting weird the last few weeks, and now I know why.
Ugh - that's not something I wanted to hear...about the wolves, I mean. That's darn close to us, now. Stinks your bow broke - but I guess you know that!! How'd the deer season go? I guess you got till this weekend, right? Good luck if you haven't tagged one already!
Just checkin' in - how's the hunting been for ya? Getting all geared up for the deer opener? We started our deer season over in Oregon already - no luck yet, but hopefully soon.
Top five signs you have hired the wrong hunting guide:
5. Your guide blows into big sea shell horn to attract game and a bunch of Vikings show up instead.
4. Your guide is completely outfitted with "Barney" camping equipment.
3. As you close in on a deer, your guide whispers in an Elmer Fudd voice, "Be vehhwey vehhwey quiet."
2. He calls trees by their first names.
And the number one sign you have hired the wrong hunting guide:
1. He is prone to scream, "Run, Bambi, RUN!"
Hope you had a great weekend! Jeannie got her first deer of bow season on opening day and Jared got a beautiful Velvet 8 point yesterday! How cool is that? We hope your hunting season is just a great as ours!! We hope to have some more stories and some pictures this week! Happy Hunting!!
I'm about 5 miles out of town to the NE. Been watching some resident does around the place and hoping for a chance at two shooter bucks I seen two weeks ago. I'm elk hunting the weiser zone and hoping I don't run into a moster mulie while hunting in unit 22. Will be hard to pass on :-) Cool that I'm finding locals already here to talk about the hunting. Take care! -Scott

Cool. I'm an Oregon resident this year, and I was just up at Lookout Mountain last night and missed on a stalk of a small bull. Wind shifted when I got to about 60 yards of him...it was the first bull I've seen this year, though...about time! My brother is up 32A today - hopefully he has some stories when he comes back.
thanks for the good luck but i hit a calf adn could not find her. I hit her a little high. I had a couple of bulls screamin at me but would not come any closer than 100 yards. I was huntin 43 and i will try to get out there a couple more weekends. What zone do you hunt?

A guy goes hunting and gets lost in the woods. Remembering the universal distress signal of 3 shots, he fires 3 shots into the air and waits.
After an hour he fires 3 more shots. Another hour goes by and still no one comes to help. Preparing for the next sequence he says to himself,
"I hope somebody comes this time because these are my last three arrows."
