There we were sitting on top of a rock listening for turkeys. My friends uncle came and called for us. So he takes out his mouth call, yelps, and i the distance I heard a faint gobble.
   " I heard one" i whispered
He says " I didn't hear one" so he calls again. And a bunch of birds in front of gobble, and the one bird i had heared behind us gobbles again.
" we can't get the ones in front of us" he says " theres a big river in between"
so we head down across the woods and we stop and call. this time everyone could hear it.
" dog barked " he said
 hten it gobbled more clear
" no its a turkey," so we go another half a mile trying to catch up with the bird while it is walking away. It finally stops and i guess had gathered with his bachelor group for the day. We get with in 100 yards away. we sit down. he calls. they gobble. he stops for a minute, calls again, they gobble. then we shut up for a while. they get mad a start gobbling like crazy trying to find the hen. they get within fifty yards and I still haven't seen them. he calls and they come out of the woods and stop 20 yards away.
   " shoot him" he whispers
i pull the trigger and the bird does a back flip then flies straight up. I shoot again. he comes soaring down from the sky and lands on the ground. 3 shells left. we couldn't figgure out what happened the turkey put its neck straight out and started to walk in circles. BOOM there is another shot but i missed this time . BOOM, BOOM! there goes my lasts shells
My friend asks " can I club him?"
" were going to have to"
so he looks around for a stick and then walks up to the turkey. WHACK WHACK WHACK right to the neck and then I go up to step up on its neck. After it died we checked it out. The first shot hit hime square in the face and blew his eyes right out of its head and that was why it was walking in circles. But that was one tough turkey. a  2 3/4 shot from my 20 gauge at 20 yards and he didn't die.
