" Today, 04/19/08, was the youth turkey hunt day in PA. I took my 7 year old daughter, the one with the pink gun, on her first hunt ever. She was not lucky enough to bag a bird, but she still has a smile on her face that is going to take a few days to get off. She got out of bed at 4 a.m. and headed off in the dark for her blind. She was pretty scared with all the nighttime noises that were going off around her but she held right tight to me and we made it to the blind ok. She was on my lap sitting until it got completely daylight and then the scaredness was all over. The adrenaline had set in. When two Jake's started heading toward us, she forgot all about the part that I kept stressing to her about having to be quiet and started hollering, "daddy, daddy, two turkeys, do ya see em?" Well, they heard her and took off the other way and that was all that we saw all day. She kept asking me if I was upset with her because she scared off the turkey's. I told her NO, that I was very proud of her for at least trying it. I was a little worried about MY first hunting trip with a 7 year old girl, but today was one of the best days of my life. Doing something that I love to do with someone so special to me. I never thought that I would enjoy it as much as I did. It is a day that I will never forget with hopefully many more to come!
