Well,Sept.15th is the 1rst day of the Hunting Season for Deer & Turkey in Mo.For me,this is a great time of year, because I'm able too get up early and go out into the woods and then,at sunrise things start too come alive! Then again,I could go in the woods at Eve.time, and stay till I can barly see the pins on my bow!Let's not forget that time between 11am & 2pm.Too be honest with ya,If I wanna see deer, most of the time I have too be out in the eve.Chances are,If I wanna see turkey,I should be out there in the morning. Now,I like too wake up early,(4-4:30)get up,get dressed,go(plane & simple)!I've tried eating before I go hunt, but I just end up either running back too the house or digging a deep hole!I like too be there, sitting next too a big tree, right when the sun starts too come up!That way I can see the beautiful colors on all theleaves, hear the dew coming off all the leaves(sometimes it'll sound like it's raining, when there's not a cloud in sight)! The birds start too sing there morning song, but unfortunatly, you may see the occasioanl squirrel too(ask any hunter and they'll agree, squirrels are deffinatly not liked very much)!!

Ya'know,I don't mind women getting involed in hunting,(Archery/Shotgun/Rifle,etc.)matter'o'fact,I'm all for it.The gettin up at 4 or 5 in the mornin, puttin on the camo, head out to that favorite tree stand or groundblind.Although,it seems some of the people on here,(maybe more women than men)give the impression that they get up,put on their best bikini,or maybe eye liner, sparkely makup, and whatever else.Just the other day I saw someones web page(female)now this woman had a good profile, and a beautiful body to boot, but granted it just doesn't say(CAMOSPACE) .It say's Sports Illistated, some may go alittle further and say Playboy.(I tried afew years back, almost got eaten to death by mosquittoes)!

I've been busy moving, incase anybody's been wondering.for the last 4 and a half yrs.now I've been living in a small town in southeast Kansas, now I reside in Orlando Fl.The easy part about this hole thing was the actual moving, actually going from Kansas to Fl.Our last night on the road,we spent the night at a nice hotel just inside the city limits of Ocala Fl.Then came time to get up and go,wich was no problem, after all,we only had a 2-2 and a half hour drive right...........WRONG!!!!!It took us about 5 and a half hours to get to somplace that should have took only 2! The other day,I think it was Tuesday or Wednesday I was goin down the road towards the storage shed(wanted to get somthin out of storage)I seen this turkey(yes,it was wild)just walkin along side the road in the grass!I couldn't beleive it,a wild turkey in Orlando !!The only woods around was across the road maybe half a mile, possibly a little less.(talk about a kodak moment, heh!)
Well,I think it was back in '85,I went fishing with my Brother, his Wife and my Mom & Dad.We spent a few hours down on the shore of the Osage River in central Missouri.Caught some fish, spent a few hours, had a little picnic, anyway this place was like a duck hangout. So that afternoon we were all up byy the car talking(about 20-30 feet away)so I seen this little group of Mallards, just kinda float'n around in the tall grass,so I started walking down to the water tryin to keep rocks/trees between me and the ducks. So far,so good,by now I'm on my belly crawl'n in to the water, kinda snake my way through the tall grass,by now I'm about a foot away from the tail feathers, now Mallards like to bob in the water, when they do this there tail feathers stick strait up.This was my oppertunity, instead I screwd up,I must've made too much noise or I was spotted,I was soooooo close!Anyway that day has weighed heavy on my mind. A few years later,I tryed sneaking up on a bird(Nah dah)don't think I got within 10 feet. That was in '91 I think. Now the last one I did was in early 94,A Spring Turkey Hunt,I went out for about 1-2 hours, didn't see anyything, but walking back I spotted a lone hen,so back tracked acouple steps, puled out my feather flex decoy I was carryin, got down on my belly, held thhe decoy up in front of me,and watch it stop about 5 yards out.(that felt kinda good) But one of these days,As GOD AS MY WITness,I Willl Lift thiis curse that has been plased upon my head,Or die tryin !!!!!!

I got a camcorder as a late Christmas gift,so today I thought I'd take it out on my Cousins property too see what I could see.I sat next to a big oak right on the edge of a field.Sat out there for bout an hour, about 45 min.into my task,I seen two turkeys(hens),come out of the woods too my left.Got the camcoder up,turned on,(by the way if sombody knows how too get rid of that musical tone, right as you turn on the thing,I'd really apprisiate it)!Luckily though the birds didn't hear me.So here I got the camcorder turned on,watching the birds through screen, the turkeys walked 10 ft.(10FEET)in front of me and then when they were 50 or 60 yards away, that's when I noticed,I didn't push the record button !

My Aunt and her Daughter were coming back from a trip to England,so I went over to the house and filled all the feeders.Anyway,I got over there and went in to see how everything was inside(everything looked good),so I walked too the dinning room window(birdfeeders are right outside the window)and I seen a squirrel sitting right under the feeders, well first thing I did was knock on the window too chase it.That's when I noticed it didn't have a tail(just alittle puff),so I thought, maybe it was a cottaintail rabbit(with really short ears)!I walked through the living room hoping too see it again(Idid)and this time I got a real good look at it,and surenuff it was a squirrel,it just didn't have a tail!I figured a dog or somthin got hold of it and pulled its' tail off.

I kinda enjoy hunting when there's snow on the ground!Things are easier too see.(Deer tracks,Deer dropings,Deer, turkey).Somtimes you can also expect too see ice too!I remember this one winter I went out hunting,in order too get too my bucket,I had to cross a creek, even though I was wearing rubber boots and the crossing was only a few inches deep, the ice was soo solid and slippery, that I just kinda slung the bow & the pack across the ice, after all it was only about 5 ft.to the other side(better safe, than sorry)! One time, I was sittin on my bucket next too an oak tree, lookin down the same creek.I seen a turkey come down the hill, guess it just wanted too get a drink off water but it saw the water was all ice over,so it just turned around and went back up the hill(but not before it did alittle ice dancin) !

Ok,here it is in black and white! I'm not a big wearer of scent, sure I may wear some 'No Scent'or some kind of cover scent but when I'm sittin out there next too a big oak or in a tree stand and a deer or turkey walks 20 feet right in front of me,I don't want too have to go back home,or meet back at the truck, just to have some one say"How did it go,did you see anything?Or,"Why didn't you shoot it?Nah,nah,I learned along time ago, have somthin ready, for example: A few years ago.One eve.my bro.&I ,we walked out behind the house,we split up he went left while I kept straight on the road. Now I set up in a bunch of blowdowns, after bout an hour I looked over to my left cause I heard somthing, anyway there was a deer standing on a trail no more than 15ft. away(and here's the kicker)that deer was followed by 3 more deer.Course,I didn't know about it,cause sun was almost down, anyway, this deer wasn't that big but it didn't have spots either so ofcourse I tried to move on it,then it spooked(obviously)that's when I noticed the 3 other deer.So I went back too the house empty handed. Now I didn't mind that,I new when I met my bro.he'd ask me"how'd it go,ya see anything?"And he did that, every single time too.(notin got under my skin more )!So ya see,I just wanna hunt the way I wanna,if I wanna talk about that big buck I saw I will,if I don't I won't!Alot of times I see deer just walk right straight at me,then at the last 5 yrds.ver off behind a cedar, hey I hunt the way I hunt!

I found this on another forum, thought you might enjoy it; Posted by a guy in Oklahoma: I had this idea that I was going to rope a deer, put it in a stall, feed it up on corn for a couple of weeks, then kill it and eat it. The first step in this adventure was getting a deer. I figured that since they congregated at my cattle feeder and do not seem to have much fear of me when we are there (a bold one will sometimes come right up and sniff at the bags of feed while I am in the back of the truck not 4 feet away) that it should not be difficult to rope one, get up to it and toss a bag over its head (to calm it down) then hog tie it and transport it home. I filled the cattle feeder then hid down at the end with my rope. The cattle, who had seen the roping thing before, stayed well back. They were not having any of it. After about 20 minutes my deer showed up - 3 of them. I picked out a likely looking one, stepped out from the end of the feeder, and threw my rope. The deer just stood there and stared at me. I wrapped the rope around my waist and twisted the end so I would have a good hold. The deer still just stood and stared at me, but you could tell it was mildly concerned about the whole rope situation. I took a step towards it...it took a step away. I put a little tension on the rope and received an education. The first thing that I learned is that while a deer may just stand there looking at you funny while you rope it, they are spurred to action when you start pulling on that rope. That deer EXPLODED. The second thing I learned is that pound for pound, a deer is a LOT stronger than a cow or a colt. A cow or a colt in that weight range I could fight down with a rope with some dignity. A deer, no chance. That thing ran and bucked and twisted and pulled. There was no controlling it and certainly no getting close to it! As it jerked me off my fee! t and started dragging me across the ground, it occurred to me that having a deer on a rope was not nearly as good an idea as I originally imagined. The only up side is that they do not have as much stamina as many animals. A brief 10 minutes later, it was tired and not nearly as quick to jerk me off my feet and drag me when I managed to get up. It took me a few minutes to realize this, since I was mostly blinded by the blood flowing out of the big gash in my head. At that point I had lost my taste for corn fed venison. I just wanted to get that devil creature off the end of that rope. I figured if I just let it go with the rope hanging around its neck, it would likely die slow and painfully somewhere. At the time, there was no love at all between me and that deer. At that moment, I hated the thing and I would venture a guess that the feeling was mutual. Despite the gash in my head and the several large knots where I had cleverly arrested the deer's momentum by bracing my head against various large rocks as it dragged me across the ground, I could still think clearly enough to recognize that there was a small chance that I shared some tiny amount of responsibility for the situation we were in. I didn't want the deer to have to suffer a slow death so I managed to get it lined back up in between my truck and the feeder - a little trap I had set before hand. Kind of like a squeeze chute. I got it to back in there and started moving up so I could get my rope back. Did you know that deer bite? They do! I never in a million years would have thought that a deer would bite somebody so I was very surprised when I reached up there to grab that rope and the deer grabbed hold of my wrist. Now, when a deer bites you, it is not like being bit by a horse where they just bite you and then let go. A deer bites you and shakes its head - almost like a pit bull. They bite HARD and it hurts. The proper thing to do when a deer bites you is probably to freeze and draw back slowly. I tried screaming and shaking instead. My method was ineffective. It seems like the deer was biting and shaking for several minutes, but it was likely only several seconds. I, being smarter than a deer (though you may be questioning that claim by now) tricked it. While I kept it busy tearing the bejesus out of my right arm, I reached up with my left hand and pulled that rope loose. That was when I got my final lesson in deer behavior for the day. Deer will strike at you with their front feet. They rear right up on their back feet and strike right about head and shoulder level, and their hooves are surprisingly sharp. I learned a long time ago that when an animal like a horse strikes at you with their hooves and you can't get away easily, the best thing to do is try to make a loud noise and make an aggressive move towards the animal. This will usually cause them to back down a bit so you can escape. This was not a horse. This was a deer, so obviously such trickery would not work. In the course of a millisecond, I devised a different strategy. I screamed like a woman and tried to turn and run. The reason I had always been told NOT to try to turn and run from a horse that paws at you is that there is a good chance that it will hit you in the back of the head. Deer may not be so different from horses after all, besides being twice as strong and three times as evil, because the second I turned to run, it hit me right in the back of the head and knocked me down. Now when a deer paws at you and knocks you down it does not immediately leave. I suspect it does not recognize that the danger has passed. What they do instead is paw your back and jump up and down on you while you are laying there crying like a little girl and covering your head. I finally managed to crawl under the truck and the deer went away. Now for the local legend. I was pretty beat up. My scalp was split open, I had several large goose eggs, my wrist was bleeding pretty good and felt broken (it turned out to be just badly bruised) and my back was bleeding in a few places, though my insulated canvas jacket had protected me from most of the worst of it. I drove to the nearest place, which was the Co-Op. I got out of the truck, covered in blood and dust and looking like ****. The guy who ran the place saw me through the window and came running out yelling, "What happened?" I have never seen any law in the state of oklahoma that would prohibit an individual from roping a deer. I suspect that this is an area that they have overlooked entirely. Knowing, as I do, the lengths to which law enforcement personnel will go to exercise their power, I was concerned that they may find a way to twist the existing laws to paint my actions as criminal. I swear...not wanting to admit that I had done something monumentally stupid played no part in my response. I told him "I was attacked by a deer". I did not mention that at the time I had a rope on it. The evidence was all over my body. Deer prints on the back of my jacket where it had stomped all over me and a large deer print on my face where it had struck me there. I asked him to call somebody to come get me. I didn't think I could make it home on my own. He did. Later that afternoon, a game warden showed up at my house and wanted to know about the deer attack. Surprisingly, deer attacks are a rare thing and wildlife and parks was interested in the event. I tried to describe the attack as completely and accurately as I could. I was filling the grain hopper and this deer came out of nowhere and just started kicking the **** out of me and BIT me. It was obviously rabid or insane or something. EVERYBODY for miles around knows about the deer attack (the guy at the Co-Op has a big mouth). For several weeks people dragged their kids in the house when they saw deer around and the local ranchers carried rifles when they filled their feeders. I have told several people the story, but NEVER anybody around here. I have to see these people every day and as an outsider - a "city folk". I have enough trouble fitting in without them snickering behind my back and whispering, "There is the dumba** that tried to rope the deer!"

For a long time I lived 'Lake of the Ozarks'in Central Missouri.Sometimes though when I felt like it I'd carry my bow & arrows on my handle bars, and just coast all the way down to the Archery Range.Yes it was about half a mile away but it was all down hill.So I'm riding down to the range,i've got my bow I'm just going to go loosen up for the upcoming Archery Season. There's two hills and inbetween is the range,a 20,30,40 and a 50 yard target, few tables,shed/clubhouse and benches. If ya really want a challenge,ya walk the trail up either hill, there's 11 or 12 targets, big square styrafome so they were pretty easy too hit.Every month or month and a half, people would get together and have a archery compitition where groups of 3 or 4 would get together and do their best on these targets, only these targets were 3-d.(the 3-d targets were only used in competition)deer, turkey, coyote & bear. The best part of that place it was the campground & American legion, sooo, this one Labor Day Weekend(actually,it was the weekend before)I pitched a tent, got up the next morn. loosend up the bow arm on the archery range, did some fishin at the campground,go shoot pool at the Legion.
Good times!

I went hunting afew years ago.I was sitting at the bottom of a hill,at the start of an old logging road.I had a feild behind me, and to the right and left.I was sittin looking uphill.I seen 1 buck and 1 doe out in the feild,to the right, they were really just too far away for a bow shot.I just sat there watching them for about 45 min. After they were gone, then I heard a noise, uphill and too my right, sure enough it was buck(a pretty decent one to).I watched that buck walk from right too left, about halfway between the top and the bottom of the hill(for what seemed like an eternity)! After about a half an hour,he turned down that old logging road.Came alittle closer to me,so I picked up my bow,drew,aimed,holding,holding..........anyways,that was bout 6:30am,I geuss.I think it was around 'Halloween Time'Which is the time of the 'Rut' in Missouri.Cold,no wind, which is a good thing at that time of day!

I'm not sure of the date,I'm pretty sure it was early Oct. though. My bro.and I started out about 5 or 5:30(anyway it was still dark out).My bro. went too the right, down the edge of a bean feild, while I went straight,my ground blind was about 500 yrds.anyway,as Iwas walking,I was thinking how this was such a nice morning, dew on the ground, stars twinkling overhead, beans have just been combined and here I am walking with a ginormouse halogen spotlite. I finaly got to my bucket, after about an hour,I heard steps behind me,then I noticed it was a deer come down out of the hill into the corn(I had too walk through the bean feild to get to my blind which was on the edge of a corn feild).Anyway,I wasn't in any hurry,so I just wachted him walk back and forth abit.Wasn't realy worried about scent, afterall it was 32 and not a cloud in sight.A few min. of watching this deer went by so I thought I'd better take him now.(To be honest, when I first seen it,I thought it was a doe.)I waited till it stoped behind a big oak, then drew, aimed and took my shot. The shot wasjust above the right shoulder, right in the heart/lungs,at 8 yrds.(yes,8 yrds.)a complete pass through! The deer ran only 20 yrds. It just had two little antlers sticking up,not even visible but I didn't care !
