Just around the corner.
I go out of town to my sister's for their dinner...she puts on quite a feed.
Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and giblet gravy, dressing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, list goes on and on. One of my favorite times of year.
What about everyone else...go out of town or stay home?

Our muzzleloading season opens in the morning.
Hope to fill a couple doe tags in the next couple of days with the little longrifle.

I've an old photo album that belonged to my grandpa that would interest any coon hunters.
Thought I'd post some that has my kin in them.
This first is my grandpa in 1945 with a nice bobcat.

This second pic isn't hunting related...my grandma and great grandma during the depression.

This third pic is my mom in 1954.

This fourth pic is my uncle Roy home on leave from the Army in 1951.

My little brother and I about 1960.

Grandpa with some of the dogs.

More dog pics.

My mom as a young girl with one.

This first pic is my great, great grandpa...pic was taken in 1924.
He was a civil war vet...union. Had kin on both sides.

This pic is my great, great grandma.

Here is a pic of my grandpa as a young boy in 1908.
He's standing at his mother's left side.

Curious to see how many here shoot flintlocks?
Would like to hear what rifle and caliber is your favorite too.
My baby is a little .40 caliber longrifle built for me by a gentleman in Georgia a few years ago.
Has a 42" Ed Rayle barrel, Siler lock, Davis triggers and a walnut stock...a real shooter.

Not far off now...Sept. 21 - Oct. 4th...I'm sure ready.

These pics were taken in Manhattan, Ks. in 1987 at the Farm-Aid concert Willie put on there.
The young lady driving Willie around the stadium happens to be my youngest sister.

My sister.

Getting out.

Willie and my sister.

Getting it on.

Have a pond out back of the house that I call "Turtle Town".
Years ago you couldn't even leave a stringer of fish in it overnight cause the turtles were so thick...wouldn't be much left if you did.
I never bothered them until I had a couple big ole snappers come up out of there after me when I was weed-eating around the edges one day.
That brought about the beginning of the end for their kind.
Since that time I've shot so many out of there I couldn't keep track.
Preferred rifle is the Sharps...shooting off of X-sticks from the slope above.
Preferred revolvers are the 1860 Army or the 1861 Navy. Walk the edges in the summer with one or the other and catch them laying around the edges.
Tried to keep track 2-3 years ago of "confirmed" kills but gave up once I got into the 80's that year.
They still keep coming and the buzzards/possums are still eating well.
The big ones have been shot out years ago, but still see a fair one on occasion.
Haven't had the time to bother them much this year...but here's a couple pics I took from Friday.
This one I saw right off and was about all I had time for.
Shot him high in the back with the 1861 Navy while he laid in the moss...finally figured out which end was the right end to grab ahold of and pulled him out. Put a second shot in his head.

Top is the .50 caliber.
Middle is the .54 caliber.
Bottom is my favorite...the little .40 caliber longrifle.

Here are a few that go with my gear.
Top one is the "Kansas Bowie" that I had Ernie Grospitch make for me.
Second is the "French Longknife" Billy Watson made for me.
Third is my favorite little drop point Ernie made.
Last is my patchknife by Billy.

These two revolvers have sent alot of critters to their maker.
On occasion they see action in dillo town.
First pic is the 1860 Army .44 caliber (top) and the 1861 Navy .36 caliber.
Second pic is entering dillo town.
Third pic is a couple of dillo that met their maker and ended up in the slow-cooker.

Here's another place I hunt rabbits on occasion.
First pic I walk the hedgerow west til I get to the far end where the trees are and then turn north and walk the fenceline til I hit the trees in the second pic.
From there I walk the waterway east that doesn't show up in the third pic.
As you can see...just here alone me and the little longrifle have covered alot of miles together.

Was a good day it was.
The little longrifle and I took a walk to see about getting a rabbit or two and came home with more than I was planning on...picked about 85 mushrooms in the process.
Should be doing the same here in about another week.

This particular ground blind out back I cut out of a blackberry thicket a few years back.
Trim it back into shape every year...lose blood every year doing it...but the results are worthwhile.
These pics were taken from it one morning towards the end of rifle season.
Had turned off pretty cold with a good north wind and spitting snow.
The geese and I were the only things moving that morning.
Should've just been the geese...I should've been in the house.

Wasn't real productive.
Shot a doe during muzzleloading season and one during rifle season...passed on a few small bucks.
The top pic was during muzzleloading season...shot her at 40 yards with the .54 Hawken using patched roundball.
The bottom pic was during regular rifle season...shot her at 19 yards with the 45-60 levergun. The 45-60 is just a shorter version of the 45-70 cartridge...a go-getter.
