Playing catch-up at work this week, lots of pictures & video to still upload but I wanted to say hey and share some pictures and videos from last week. The good news was that I filled my fall turkey tag..

I passed on 3 different little bucks during the week and got a nice little video on this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd9eHr8TdRU

Then the depressing news was the blood trail that didn’t have a happy ending..

I blew it on a nice buck.. I should quit fooling with video.. I ended up hanging my bow on my hand climber & then had to rush the shot further away than I could of had a beautiful broadside but no.. I had to have video.. I hit him high & only got the opposite lung, blood trailed him for a mile & a half and then jumped him the next afternoon... then he came back into me from the other way 3 days later and remembered me in the tree.. looked at me coming in and spooked as I was drawing the bow.. I have another video of that to..

Here's the link to the video of the buck where you can see how nice he was coming in and then me bleating him to stop and shooting my bow while he’s off screen and then me pleading with him to go down where I thought he was going to..:

3 days later, same buck coming from the other direction and he remembered me in the tree!  Watch him stop and look at me and then spook when I drew the bow!

I also caught a short video and one long range picture of this Monster Buck hot chasing a doe after I found his rubs later in the week! He’s obviously the biggest buck on the 3,500 acre farm I hunt on. Maybe it’s my destiny to kill this monster this year!

I zoomed in the picture from this:

I really hope I get a crack at that guy yet this season. Our gun opener is Nov 30th!

Missed Y’all!

Just thought I'd start a blog to honor the vets that are near and dear to our hearts so I'll start it off with my wife!

Sherry Eileen Johnson (Maiden Name = Studer)

Served in the US Navy from 1981 to 1985

Honorably Discharged as a 3rd Class Petty Officer

Sherry served on the 1st female crew to ever go to sea as a part of the ship’s crew on “The USS Eisenhower”. She was an F-14 Fighter Mechanic.

Nice to have a wife that knows her way around in my roller chest of tools in the garage!

I know it's a sad day with the news on what happened down at Ft Hood (prayers for family and friends) but I just got my email copy of Wild Ohio e-news with the link to this story about a guy in a suburb of Columbus (where I live) that bequeathed over 4.5 million dollars of his estate to the ODNR with a specific requirements that they spend it on a contiguous piece of land in South/East Ohio where folks could hunt/fish and the ODNR has made his wish a reality in a big way! Way to go Wally and way to make it happen ODNR!!! And they only paid a little over $1.2k per acre for some awesome land in God’s country!!!

I really like the Ohio DNR!!!

My 12 year old nephew Clint made an excellent 210 yard heart shot with a 30-06 on his 1st buck, a nice 5x5 Mulie, Sunday morning 10/18/09 out in South West Colorado, where they live. His dad took him out hunting and is pictured with him in one of the below photos. He’ll be going for his 1st Elk next in a few weeks and we are wishing him the Best of Luck! He has been waiting for the day he could go big game hunting for a long time, in Colorado you have to be at least 12 before you can hunt big game.

Congratulations to Clint and to his dad for helping him to get out there and succeed!

A 90 year old woman bags a 9 point buck in WI!

Kudos to her for still gettin out there and Gettin-R-done!!!

The good lord was watching over the guy that walked away from this one down in Arizona. He had 7 elk come running and crashing into him all at once while he was going 65 mph. They hit him from the front and sides bouncing over the top, crashing into his windshield and 2 or 3 on the front and underneath that actually cushioned/absorbed some of the blow as he crashed off the road and into a drainage ditch with front & side airbags deployed. The Forest Service told him he holds the record for hitting and killing the most Elk ever and for walking away alive. They gave him ownership tags for all 7 dead Elk and he gave them all away to local folks that showed up to help clean up the mess and salvage what meat they could.

I have been wanting to make a better camera holder for using in the tree stand without spending a bunch of money.  Last year I tried mounting a little pivoting head camera base to an extension arm hanger but it kept pivoting on me and did not want to hold the camera level. So, tonight, we were at Dicks and I spotted this new style hanger arm with an extra bracket and hanger/hook that screws in to keep the arm level and I thought there is the ticket! Then when I got home I spotted an old camera tripod that had broken crap on the legs so I disassembled it and figured how I could drill and pin one of the leg brackets onto the arm to where I could slip the tripod on and off the arm and I used a little vinyl black electrical tape to tighten it all up so it would not wobble or make noise and it works great! So, I spent $9.99 and made use of the old tripod I was going to throw away!

Wow!!! Congratulations to elkbuglin_babe for the absolute Monster Mule deer Buck she got yesterday! Check out the pictures in her gallery!!!

Way to go Cindy!!!!

Here's what we have left for a Varsity football team this year. Considerably less than last year due to the 3rd/new high school opening in our community this year. Our 1st game got delayed because of storms and then the opposing team forfitted because they had a 3 hour drive home and knew they were destined to lose anyways so they walked away with only 2 points going against their stats for the forfit.

Here's the team picture & roster out of the program:

And some pictures from warm-ups last night, Chris is number 67.

And some fun pictures:

Free food during the delay:

And couldn't leave out the cheerleaders!

Ok, I have had several folks question me on where I get all my flower pictures from so I thought I would step back out of the macro close up photography mode and show you some pictures of our house on our nice big corner lot with my old truck in the driveway. LOL! You can see all our flowerbeds, decorative fish pond and all my wife has done with her big ole green thumb! I had to go get all the rocks for around the pond from down at the river so I pitched in. LOL! I also actually forgot to get a little closer to the front flower beds but you will get a better picture of my resources for all the macro close up pictures I get!  I threw in our vegetable garden to! And I even used the tripod and the timer so I could put my ugly mug in a couple of the pictures

Change Your Thinking

It will take just a minute to read this and change your thinking.

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs.

His bed was next to the room's only window.

The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end.

They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation..

Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the wind

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside..

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake.

Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.

Although the other man could not hear the band - he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days, weeks and months passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.

She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside.
He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed only to see that it  faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.
She said, 'Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you....'

Epilogue:

There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.
Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.
If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy.

'Today is a gift, that is why it is called
 The Present...'

Sometimes you just notice things when you're driving around out in the country... my wife hates me for it... I'm liable to careen off a road just about anywhere... into a field entrance/tractor path or whatever... and she normally screams something along the lines of... "Holy Crap!" She really hates it if I'm driving her car & she'll yell "We're not in the truck!" But anyways, I digress... back to carreening off country roads because I see turkies! I took a few pictures, one was of a bird that was way off by itself away from the other birds & I didn't realize until I loaded it & saw a bigger image, but it was a bearded hen!

There were some gobblers & jakes to!

And a red fox I carreened into a Church to take a picture of, it was obvious he was getting some summer mange:

Spent the last 3 days camping & fishing down on the Ohio River below the Belleville dam. Had lots of fun & caught a bunch of little hybrid stripers, sheepshead & catfish. Had 2 big fish runs, 1 on cut bait & 1 on a half a raw fryer chicken but both fish made short runs and spit the baits before we could get hook-ups... but we had a blast! Just wanted to share some pictures!

Our campsite & 2 tents:

And some fun on the river!

Chris with the 6/0 with the half chicken on for bait, in his hands after we missed a run/hook-up out of a rod holder...

Baits out under balloons:

And then this guy came upstream blowing his horn at us to get the heck outta his channel....

And a few of the little fish:
