On my way out to check a food plot I planted this spring, I came up on a hen turkey with a new born clutch. The chicks were so new they could hardly get through the mowed grass on the trail. As I watched them, I realized how vulnerable they are to predators at so young an age. The good habitat I have been offering them will help. Will Longenecker
If you raise or have animals, you have flies. Flies are the nastiest of insects. They carry diseases and pester our animals relentlessly. This has been my experience at my dog kennels which is just 100 feet from the house. I do the best I can to control them. I have tried spray. Oh, it works OK, but within minutes, new flies appear. What works best for me is fly paper and fly traps. The shiny substance on the paper gets their attention. The stinky smell in the traps lures them in. Once they land, they are my prisoners to their death. In John 8: beginning in verse 31, Jesus was speaking to a group of people and said, “If you hold to my teachings, you are truly my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” The people were puzzled at this statement and said, “We have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free.” v.33. “Jesus answered, Everyone who sins is a slave to sin” v.34. We don’t talk about sin much today and no one likes to think of themselves as a slave, but Jesus says here that sin makes us a slave; in reality, to the Devil. Just like the fly trap, sin allures us. We say, I will just go in once; but like the fly, we get stuck. Sin traps us and makes us it’s slave. Sin pays wages every day. “The wages of sin is death;” Romans 6:23. Sin separates us from God and leads to spiritual death. Sin will cost you more then you want to pay. It will take you farther then you want to go. It will keep you longer then you want to stay. It doesn’t matter if the sin is alcoholism, lying, cheating, stealing, pornography, all sin has the power to enslave us, and try as we will to free ourselves, we are powerless on our own. But slavery to sin does not have to be our destiny. Paul wrote to a young Pastor named Timothy in II Timothy 2: 26, “That they may come to their senses and escape from the trap of the Devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.“ Jesus offers us the way of escape in verse 31, listed above, “Hold onto His teachings and become His disciples so that we can learn THE TRUTH and be set free. If we confess our sins and our sinfulness to God and seek His forgiveness and with a genuine heart, ask Jesus to take control of our lives, God, the Holy Spirit moves into our body. He takes up residence and 2 miraculous things happen. First, our old self dies. Just as Jesus died on the cross and lay dead in the tomb, so our old nature is now dead, and we become dead to sin. Second, because at our conversion we were spiritually “reborn” (born again), we experience resurrection life. Just as Jesus was resurrected from the dead, so at our conversion, He gives us His resurrection power. Paul said it well in Romans 6:6-7, For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin--because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.” Receive Jesus today, for through Him we can have victory over sin and freedom from it’s power that enslaves us. Don’t be like the fly who because of a pleasing sight and a compelling smell entered the trap to his death. Will Longenecker
Suppose your wife or a friend makes you a moose pot roast. I picked moose because it is my favorite big game meat. It is taken out of the oven and placed on the table. YOU LOOK AT IT. It looks so good.YOU THINK OF ALL THE NUTRITIONAL VALUE IT HAS; protein, low in fat etc. YOU GO OVER AND TAKE A GOOD WIFF OF IT. It smells so good. All that effort will give you no lasting benefit unless you eat it. This illustration reminds us of our Christian life. When the questionaire asks the question, 'what religion you are?" we write in the word Christian. But are we? To what extent? Do you get as excited about Jesus as you do when you just shot a 150 inch or better buck? How about when you just called in a double bearded tom or caught that large brown trout? We should, because when we talk about God, we are speaking of the one who "owns the cattle on a thousand hills." He created all those animals we hunt and of course, owns them. But he gave them all to us for our enjoyment. The Bible clearly teaches this in Genesis 9: 2-3; "The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves on the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything." The point is this, many of us have a superficial relationship with God; we're just smelling the pot roast. But some might protest, "I do more then just smell the pot roast. I go to church most Sundays. I sing in the choir. I even shovel my senior neighbors driveway. Yes there is a middle level between cold and hot;between superficial ,and dynamic. It is, lukewarm. I call it "tasting the pot roast." We taste the edges of the pot roast. Our taste buds are satisfied but we will not get nourishment from a mere taste. In order to get nourishment and be blessed, we must eat it. Tasting is not eating! The prophet Jeremiah certainly understood this when he said in Jeremiah 15:16, "When your words came to me, O God, I ate them; they were my joy and my hearts delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God Almighty. My buddy and I were in nothern British Columbia hunting moose. We agreed to hunt together for a couple days and flipped a coin to see who would get first shot for each day. It was his shot that day, when we saw 2 bulls just 125 yards ahead of us. The one in the little clearing was smaller. The other one was behind a clump of trees and was estimated by the guide to be at least 58 inches. They were not aware of our presence, so which one do you think he shot? He waited 'til the big bull moved from behind the clump of trees, used a fallen tree as a rest, and made a perfect shot with his 300 Winchester, on the big bull. Why settle for the second best when you can have the best? Why settle for a taste when you can have the meal?. Maybe you have just been smelling the pot roast or just tasting the edges of it. If so, Jesus is saying to you, "come and eat." In John 6:35, Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry; and he who believes in me will never go thirsty." Jesus will satisy all your needs. Your spiritual life can continue to be superficial or it can become a dynamic relationship.Through studying God's Holy Word and praying to Him we can get to know Him better. Go to and get involved in a Bible believing and Bible teaching church. Spiritual blessings can come only by eating the word of the Lord and studying over it, just as Jeremiah did. What do these three (guns, hunting, and Christianity) have in common? Among other things, they are hated by the liberal elite. Currently, it is the liberal elite that is running this country. They may not be the majority of the populace, but we cannot argue that they are currently in control. Because liberal eletists see things through a cinderella/story book glass dome, their solutions to problems rarely make sense. Because they are eletist in their view of themselves, they look down on any other ideology that does not agree with theirs. They really do believe that they are more intelligent then others, and they possess no common sense.
They worship the god of moral relativism, which says that all truth is "relative" to the individual and all points of view are equally valid. Their key word is "tolerance;" tolerance that is, for any view except guns, hunting, and Christianity. They cannot accept Christianity because it teaches that there is something called "absolute truth;" truth in God and His word. They refuse to acknowledge that God has instilled truth, in the universe, even though we witness it every day, for if this were not so, the planets would collide with each other and the earth would not rotate and revolve precisely giving us accurate time and seasons.
These liberal eletists hate guns because they truly believe that if we pass enough laws, we can cut back on crime. Common sense and history point to the truth that in cities who have the most anti-gun laws and where these anti-gun laws are the most stringent, crime has not decreased and has often increased. Common sense says that criminals do not obey the laws. That's why they are called criminals; da! What these laws do is take away the abiility for law-abiding citizens to defend themselves against criminals. I know of what I speak, since I live in Chicago half of the time and on my farm in nowthwest Indiana half of the time. Five years ago as I sat in my Chicago office alone, an out of control tenant came into my office threatening me and when he picked up a sail fish carving and raised it over his head and started toward me, shouting, "I'm gonna bust you over the head;"I went into action. I pulled my Colt auto out of my drawer, pulled the action back, stood (all in one swift action) I shouted "stop." All of a sudden, I was back in control. He dropped the sail fish carving and left my office. When the police arrived, I was in as much trouble as he was since it was then illegal to possess a hand gun in the city limits of Chicago; even in your home or office. I sat in jail for 5 hours and had to hire a lawyer to defend me in a court case, which, thank the Lord, was dismissed. Common sense teaches that gun laws take away the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves. But liberal eletists would tell us to simply, call the police. Bonehead, I had no time to call the police. It is impossible for the police to be everywhere all of the time. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away! We must be allowed by law, to defend ourselves and our families.
Did you notice all the nasty criticism Sarah Palen took as the Republical VP candidate. She was an NRA member and a hunter and also a Christian. She was all three things that the liberals love to hate. Their attacks on her were ruthless. When Miss California politely answered that it takes a man and a woman to make a marriage, she was ruthlessy criticised. She said what the majority of Americans believe; that marriage is ordained of God and the Bible gives directions and mandates for marriage. Common sense says that a womans body is made for a man not for another woman. The same is true of men with men. Oh, I forgot, liberal eletists have no common sense. Actually we should not be surprised by these attacks because the Bible told us that this time would come."for men shall be lovers of their own selves,.......despisers of those that are good, yea and all that will live Godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution." II Timothy 3: 2,3,13. In truth, the "tolerance" of moral relativism to which liberals espouse, is actually "intollerance," and more and more it is flexing it's muscle and fighting against Christianity, guns, and hunting. Perhaps, like no other period, it is time to stand up and be counted. "Don't be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, for it is the power of salvation to everyone who believes." But perhaps you are not aware of the facts of the gospel message of Jesus Christ. It was in that beautiful Garden of Eden, where all was perfect, that Adam and Eve sinned and disobeyed God. Somehow, Adam acted as the representative for all mankind, so that all of his descendants (that includes us), are born with a penchant to sin. The Bible describes it as having a sin nature. "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23. Because God is holy he cannot let sin enter his heaven. But He had a plan for this from the beginning. He sent His son, Jesus, to pay the penality for our sins. The life of the creature is in the blood, and blood has to be shed for the remission of sins. Jesus willingly became the "perfect lamb" who takes away our sins. He died in our place because He loves you. He is not willing that anyone should perish in Hell, but that all should come to repentance. This door is open for all to receive His free gift of salvation. We cannot earn it because our righteousness, (our good deeds), are as filthy rags to God. Thirty six years ago, my life was alll mixed up. I reached out to Jesus and he forgave me and gave me a new life. I was reborn through the blood of Jesus. Sound weird? Maybe so, but if you do not have this free gift of salvation, you should. It will transform your life. "Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now He has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in God's sight, without blemish and free from accusation." Colossians 1:21-22. Without Christ we are enemies of God. With Christ, God has forgiven all our sins and we stand "holy" before God. Try explaining that TRUTH to a liberal eletist. Thank you for listening, and God's richest blessings on you. Will Lognenecker
Not long ago, a man used Proverbs 12:27 to try and convince me that the Bible is anti-hunting. This verse says, "The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, but diligence is man's precious possession." But as I explained to him, this verse simply says that it is proper to eat what you kill; In Bible days, hunting was a means of survival. The meat was eaten, the hides and furs were used for clothing and tents. There was nothing like sport hunting then. Yet, no where in the Bible is hunting forbidden, in fact even David as a boy was a predator hunter. In 1 Samuel 17:34-36 he tells his King Saul how he had to kill a lion and a bear who had attacked his father's sheep herd. Prior to the flood, man and animal life were vegetarians,(Gen.1:29-30), that is probably why the animals did not eat each other in Noah's ark since they were not yet meat eaters. However, after the flood, God told Noah and indirectly told all mankind "Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything"; (Genesis 9: 3). In truth, the Bible protects the right for ethical hunting. One of my favorite verses in this regard is Gen. 2:28b: "Be fruitful and increase in number, fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living creature that moves on the ground." thanks for letting me share this with U.
