I was approached by a company that started the film dipping back in 99 and they want me to open up a film dipping company in my home state, I contacted them to find out where I could order some film and products to do the bows that I build and if someone wants one re-dipped. Well they kept on selling me on the idea and am in the process of giving it ALOT of serious thought. I know the economic situation in the US isn`t at an all time high but this process does cover a wide range of clients beyond the great outdoors. Anyone own their own business here that reads that wants to chime in with pro`s and cons it would be greatly appreciated, I was an owner operator semi driver for 10 years and this is a slightly different situation to get into so any and all insights are welcome.
Well Deer season is over and even though I only got to go out a few times I enjoyed getting a brand new place to hunt. I am hoping the economy straightens up and work gets back to normal so I can get caught up on everything and get back to normal. I had a company approach me about starting my own film dipping company and they are offering training and leasing equipment but with the economic situation like it is I am very undecided about the whole thing.
Well I have forsaken some woods time to get her finished and she is ready to hunt ! ! At 33 1/2 ATA and a 5 1/4 brace height, 64 lbs draw weight, 29 3/8 draw length and shooting a 375 grain arrow at 302 fps no hand shock or vibration. A little over 75 lbs Kinetic Energy,, she is good to go for whatever I want to hunt ! !
Well this would have been a perfect weekend to be in the woods but with our wonderful economy and my work slowing down because of it I won`t be able to be out there this weekend.Payed the bills and got some food and now will just have enough gas money to get back and forth to work,,let alone the 1 hour drive to the woods and 1 hour back.
Well I had my bow built to my specs back in 06 and have pondered going out on a limb and doing it up myself for quite sometime. Well I redid it with different limbs and a different bows cam and loved it, then it hit me. I have been in archery over 27 years now,,have worked on about every bow make out there and while I may not have a degree in physics or geometry I know enough to be dangerous,,lol. SO I sat down with a old set of limbs I had laying in the stock pile and decided to go as far out on a limb as I could. Ya only live once right?? So I took the limbs and cut them in half lengthwise and made split limbs, then I worked the limbs down so they could fit in a standard limb pocket and still be split and not worry about twisting or inner movement. Then I decided on a different cam and went with the mathews max cam and a 3 inch fred bear ball bearing idler. Then I cut the limbs down to accomodate a 5 inch brace height, put it all together and made the new string and cable and with a 29 1/4 inch brace height at 68 lbs with a 346 grain arrow she is shooting a steady 325 fps. Now my usual and normal draw length is 30 1/2 and will have to make a new string to gain 1 1/4 inches of draw and that should put the ibo well up over 340,, and with some more tweaking I will hit 350 fps at under 70 lbs with a solocam ! ! Some say I am nuts, some say its too dangerous, maybe all of the above is true but with over 100 shots on the bow it is stable, silent and 1 STRONG shooter. My main goal is get it at 62-63 lbs with a near 400 grain arrow and still shooting at or above 300 fps.
