For years everyone has told me that turkey hunting was more fun than deer hunting.Well I finally am trying it and after my experience yesterday they were right. For all you more experienced hunters this story may seem a little silly or may even bring back memories. I have been hunting a dried up lake bed for about 4 days and heard a lot of turkeys and saw a couple of hens and a couple of jakes but all of the toms kept gobbleing up on a ridge that was too steep to climb from the lake bottom. I decided that yesterday I wasn't going to hunt but instead try to find my way to that ridge from the road. I got ready just like I was gonna hunt (just in case ) .I started walking in at about 5 am after about 45 minutes I walked to the edge to see if I was near the lake bed yet and to take a short break ,while setting there I heard 2 toms start to gobble but they were pretty far off . I decided to keep trying to find my spot. As I walked away (not being quiet at all) I heard a tom that sounded like it was right on top of me down in the bottom.I went back and found the nearest cover I could find and hit my box call and sure enough he responded . I hit it again and he sounded off again. He was right there but I couldn't see him because my glasses fogged up. This went on for what seemed like forever and then I saw movement abogh 60 yards out. And then it happened he steped out from behind a tree in full strut .Now if you have seen this before you will remember the first time if you haven't YOU NEED TOO .I had never seen a tom in the wild do this and I have too say I have seen a lot of big bucks but none of them compared to the site of this bird strutting as if to let the world no I AM THE BADDEST BIRD IN THE WOODS. I never got a shot that I felt good about taking but it was worth everything to see him and I count this as a sccesful hunt.
