We regret to inform you of a tragic accident that occurred outside of Scioto Darby Elementary School this morning. School crossing guard Dianna Sharp and a second-grade student were walking in the crosswalk to school when they were struck by a truck traveling west on Scioto Darby Road.
We are deeply saddened to report Mrs. Sharp died from her injuries. Thanks to her heroic efforts, however, Mrs. Sharp is credited with saving the life of the student, who is currently at Children's Hospital in stable condition. Hilliard Police are investigating the accident.
Teachers and counselors from across the district spent the day talking with the students at Scioto Darby Elementary and providing support where needed.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the Sharp family and best wishes to our young student and his family.

Please say a prayer for the family & friends... my wife said she heard it was a dump truck....
Thanks! It has quieted down some at this point... folks were pretty upset about it... The kids from the school have set-up a roadside memorial with crosses & flowers right where the cross-walk is...
Agreed & he looked real upset last night. I deal with Safety & accident issues all the time at work and the one big thing you learn, in respect to Safety and keeping folks safe, is the eye contact rule. I can't believe that the crossing guard made eye contact with him & knew he'd seen her and was going to stop before she proceeded to cross the street. If i was a crossing guard, I'd never assume that just because I'd held up a Stop sign, that I could walk out in front of a dump truck with children. Heck, I'd be waiting until they came to a stop before I started crossing... Just a tragic deal...
Guys don't forget to pray for the driver of that truck. He now has to live with the fact that he killed this woman. I don't know the situation exactly but his actions took her life no matter if his story is acurate or not he'll live with it his whole life. I have a friend at church who drives a concrete truck. A lady pulled out in front of him and there was nothing he could do. She died and he lives with it everyday. Not his fault at all but prayer got him through. I'd guess the driver of the truck could use it too. And if he's not right with god pray this situation brings him to that place.
Thanks again to all! They're going to have grief councelors at the school today. I drive right past where the accident happened every day on my way to/from work...
It was the top story on the local TV news in Columbus tonight... Dump Truck driver said he didn't even see them... Obviously the crossing gaurd didn't realize he wasn't yielding to her stop sign until it was to late & even though the driver said he was going the speed limit, he apparently has a past record of speeding tickets and accidents.... It did happen during the time that all the kids were going to school this morning & lots of folks and kids witnessed it....
