I didn't even leave the house till 2:30 pm and headed South about 2 & 1/2 hours knowing that sunset wasn't until 7:27 or something like that. I figured that I'd go hunt this evening & tomorrow. Deer started coming out around 6:15 & I shot a couple videos I'll have to load & see if you can see the big boy that came out about 500 yards away but he was a long ways off & walking/feeding away from me so I figured I wouldn't get a shot at him... Then 3 bucks started coming in through a hollow/thicket behind me and they were sparring down in the hollow. I could see one was an 8 & 2 were smaller 6 points. I normally go by an 8 points or better rule so it was decision time. Made up my mind! LOL!!! I thought I was going to spook him because my arrow came unknocked & clanked against my bow with the buck 5 yards from me, right after he passed my stand. But I was able to get it back together & figured out my newer arrows have snap lock knocks & I guess I hadn't snapped it all the way on! Anyways, walking up on a dead deer on the ground this evening was a dang nice feeling! Especially since I haven't killed anything but a lot of does & a couple spike bucks since 2003.
The Exit Hole! I always aim for where I want the arrow to exit! I was slightly higher but it was a solid kill shot & he only ran about 60 yards.
Awesome Biggie! Nice deer and nice story. I know what you mean about the 'gift' part too! Same thing I was thinking the day I shot the 10 pointer for Crash! It's not always the size of the deer that makes the hunt memorable or successful. Way to go buddy!!
Thanks to All! I thought about just shooting video of him but then I got to thinking about my 8 points or better rule & about how I haven't taken anything but a bunch of does & a couple spikes since 2003 and the way he was just coming in on the 1st evening I got in a stand and I figured he was a gift!
