Game Camera Issues
Posted On: 09/05/2008 08:37:38
So, I've always wanted to use a game camera and I finally purchased one.  It's a moultrie M40.  Not top of the line, but I can't afford much more then that right now.  Still I thought it would be a good camera.

I've had it out for about 2 weeks now.  I've gotten gotten quite a few pictures and there are deer in most of them (at least I think so).  A few of the pictures are very clear and crisp, both at night an during the day.  However, most  of the pictures are just all white or all black.

After the first round of pictures, I noticed that there was some limbs and vines in the way, possible triggering "blank" pictures, but I have cleared them out and it's gotten no better.

Also, I know that I have this camera facing into the setting sun (which I intened to adjsut this weekend) but the all white and/or all black pictures are showing up at all times of the day and night, not just when the sun is setting.

I was hoping you folks may have some tips for me.  I'm really looking forward to getting nice pictures like I see all over this site, but to this point I only have a nice picture of a raccon.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Ryan

Shawn,

Thanks for the feedback.  I found out about the upgrades that you need to do online.  I'm going to give it a shot.  Hopefully, I won't have any issues.  But as you said, if there is a problem I can contact Moultrie and they'll make it right.

Thanks again and good lukc this year.

Hey Ryan...even the new Moultries we recieve you still have to upgrade.  Just make sure you do it step by step or it will screw your camera up.  I did it to two cameras lastyear, one took it fine, the other locked up and was useless.  But the one great thing about it is that you  Call Moultrie or email them if something happens to one of your cameras.  You ship it back and they will ship a brand new one to you instead of the one you sent back.  But, they still don't update them at the factory.  We have 3 Moutlrie i-40's and i get some white pics, but i'll take them instead of trying to download the software.  hope this helps!!!

Take care,

Shawn

Thanks.  After I typed this up, I did a little more digging and it looks like I have an older model of the M40 and I need to download the software updates.  I got the instructions and the upgrades off the Moultrie site.  I hoe this resoves the problems.  Of the picture that I did get, they look great.  So I am pretty excited to get it working right.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks again,
Ryan

I had herd about this problem online. They say you can upgrade the software with the usb cable that came with it. One guy did it and said it cured his whiteout problem. Thats the same camera I have and it's working great.
