Bible Study Verse Deuteronomy 1:34-36 When the LORD heard what you said, he was angry and solemnly swore: "Not a man of this evil generation shall see the good land I swore to give your forefathers, except Caleb son of Jephunneh. He will see it, and I will give him and his descendants the land he set his feet on, because he followed the LORD wholeheartedly." (NIV)
Thoughts You show me a person that routinely has a big buck hanging on the skinning rack, and I'll show you a person that takes hunting seriously. After all, big, dominant bucks don't just fall into your lap. You work hard for them. It takes time--often more time than we want to give--to pursue a buck of record caliber. Big buck hunting requires resolve and determination, more than a half-hearted attempt. The half-hearted hunter rarely has a wily old mossy-horn in his crosshairs. You must be willing to wholeheartedly seek after that brute. When you do, the reward is sweet! (BH)
Action Point Read Deuteronomy 1:34-36 again. Notice that God is openly blessing Caleb because of his deep devotion and obedience. ". . . [b]ecause he followed the Lord WHOLEHEARTEDLY." Caleb wasn't simply a "weekend warrior" that punched a spiritual clock on Sunday morning. Not at all! Instead, Caleb lived out his life in complete obedience to his God. But don't miss the flip side of the coin. God did not bless--even punished--those who did not follow and trust Him. I challenge you today: resolve to follow God wholeheartedly. See if He doesn't honor your obedience as He did that of Caleb. It takes resolve and determination to wholeheartedly seek after God. When we do, the reward is sweet!
Sportsmen's Tip of the Day To control scent in your hunting clothes in the off season, pay a visit to your local pet center or nursery. Bags of cedar mulch for dog beds and flower beds are good natural scents to let mingle with your clothes. I keep my hunting clothes in an antique cedar chest with a few sprinkles of cedar mulch poured in for good measure. I smell just like a cedar tree on opening morning!
I like the lesson today. This is a great reminder for each of us to heed. Not only in the hunting woods but so much in our daily walk. Like you said in reference to the "weekend warriours".
