Homemade Cover Scents…
Just thought I would pass this little tid-bit along… In all the years that I have been hunting and chasing Whitetails. I can honestly say that I have tried some crazy things while hunting Whitetails. One of my little tricks that I like to do is make some Cover Scent… It’s cheap and just takes alittle bit of time… I will use Acorns, Cedar or. anything that is a natural smell in the home of the Whitetail…
It is very easy to do and it works GREAT…
Here, where I live we have several Cedar Trees and Hardwoods. I like to take and clip several small limbs along with the green stuff and add all of this to a good size pot along with distilled water. I will generally make about 2 gallons at a time. Put the pot on a burner at a High Flame and bring to a Boil. Best to do this Outside because it does get strong…Let all this come to a Boil. Let it Boil for a good 2 hours and then turn it off and let cool. Once it is cooled off strain the Liquid into a scent free spray bottle and then pour the rest into the water jug or jugs that the distilled water came in for storage. This way you can have plenty of refills as you need it. I always carry a bottle of this with me and apply it as often as I need it while I’m out hunting.
Acorns can be used the same way. Only on the Acorns you must bust them up so they will give that Acorn aroma. I use a big Hammer to really get them crunched up. I use this like around the base of my tree when hunting in a Hardwood Area and on my Boot Pads Walking in…
Don’t take me wrong here because I use every precaution on controlling my human scent and plus some when I’m out hunting. This is just a few additives that I like to use during season. Besides, I can use all the help I can get…
Hope you try it this season… Good Luck… Griz…
