Well I have not been able to turkey hunt the last 2 years due to being deployed over seas for the Air Force. However this year I was able to get out into the woods. I made a call to my uncle who has 1000 acres that do not get any turkey hunting pressure and made plans for my buddy who has also been deployed for the past two turkey seasons and myself to go and give them a try. We hit the road at 3 am for a 3.5 hr drive to the property, it was all going smooth until we hit dead stop traffic on the interstate due to a wreck. After about thirty minutes we were rolling again. We get to the property right at daylight and start walking, we had barley gotten away from the truck when he at least four birds sound off, the only bad thing is they were across the road on another property. We had to walk away from 4 hot birds and it almost killed us. Well we go to another part of the property and we here a bird, and then another bird, and then another bird. We were in the right location, so we split up and head after them. I get set up on two birds that are hot on the roost so I set up along a road and start doing a few soft yeps and they would sound off. So I shut up until they hit the ground and they started going away from me. I then start cuttin and chacklin and they cut me off so I just shut up. About 5 minutes later I see a white head working my way and then a red head with him. One is strutin, gobblin, spittin, and drumin and the other is looking for the hen. Well the one that is lookin gets a lilttle too close and gets a load of 3in #4's to the head. He had 12.5in beard and 1in spurs. Hold on the story is just gettin started. I start walking back to wait for my buddy when he comes walking out of a swamp, we start talking about his bird that is roosted over water and we are trying to find the best way to get to him. Just as we start to set up on him, he flys down from the roost and lands 75 yrds in front of us. We squat down and he starts gobblin and strutin. So here we are squated down in a field with a bird right in front of us my buddy starts callin and the bird starts working down the road, I could not believe my eyes well he gets to 35 yrds and then takes a dirt nap. 9.5 in beard 7/8in spurs just a baby. We get back clean the birds and head to town for lunch, get back and sit on the porch and tell lies about hunting and the my buudy tells me there is a gobbler 30yrds behind my truck. Well I think he is full of @#%&@, but I turn around and this bird makes his way to a field just to the left of the house. So we rush inside and change clothes get back outside sneek of to the field and call this bird to us and my buddy makes a 55 yrd shot. Bird had 10.5in beard and 1 3/4 in spurs. The next morning we head to the same spot were we had killed or first two birds and we had them gobblin right off the bat so we split up again and I'm walking down the road and had three gobblin right out in front of me already on the ground. So I set up against a small tree and made one soft yep and shut up 5 min later here come 3 gobblers down the road. I pick out the second one cause he looked the biggest and I shoot and miss, well he runs a few feet and stops I shoot again and he starts floppin, I get up to retreive him and the third bird comes back out and stops well I blast him. the first had two beards 8.5 & 10.5ins with 1 3/8 spurs the second had 10.5 beard and 1 1/4 spurs. So i am done in GA. Two hunters two days 5 birds. truly a weekend I will never for get. Check out the pics on my profile.
