this is my first blog and im not a huge blogger but i thought i would kinda write about my hunting trips in my short 3 years of hunting. October 1, 2006 I received my tag earlier that year and was waiting for this day all year. probably my most memorable hunts ever was my first, it was a moose tag and its hard to draw for moose. on the first day we saw a few moose (about 4) we found on that we planned to watch all weekend. she covered this hill back and forth all day and we got tired of waiting. we decided to take a brake from watching her and see if we could find some more in a different location. we found a small ranch that allowed us to hunt their land. many time i almost shot one of their cattle because of all the thick brush they had there. all that day we saw nothing but cattle and water and tree's. when we got back from a 3 hour hike we thanked them and went to see if our local cow moose was on the hill. she wasn't but we decided to stay the night there. when i woke up in the morning before my dad, i saw a bigger cow on the hill and wanted to go by myself and try to tag my moose. i didn't because i didn't want to frighten my dad when he awoke. that day another moose came into sight and me and my dad took off trying to head her off. we got to her just in time. she was heading for timber and pure excitement and exhaustion i shot and gut shot her. she laid down where she stood and in 5 minutes time i shot again. this shot i only had about 5 inches of her head exposing. i had to stay steady and pulled the trigger and dropped her right their. this hill was so steep that i had to tie her head to a little tree too keep her from falling down the mountain. it worked until about half-way through the field dressing process. she started to slowly slide down the hill bending the tree more and more and she was taking my dad with her. finally my dad had to take her by her leg and throw her down the steep hill so she could find a place to settle in so we can finish field dressing her. after finishing we drug her down the hill about 70 yards until the downed timber got to thick. the next day my dad went up and did most of the packing because me and my friend were still young and not as strong. on the last trip me and my friend went with him and grabbed the last quarter from my moose. on the way down i fell with the pack on my back and i started to slide towards a hill, very steep hill in which the river was at the bottom of. my friend grabbed the pack so i wouldn't fall and he finished packing my moose out from their. What was suppose to be a three day hunt turned out to be a 5 day hunt. this hunt is truly one of my favorite and most memorable hunts of my life... for now.
