Michaell Waddell has a guest blog post on Moose Droppings today about elk hunting. "Calling Elk Bow-Close" Michael just this week announced that he will be a regular writer and contributor to Peterson’s Hunting. I’ve had the honor of meeting him a number of years ago here in Raleigh at the Scope Show and it is an honor to have him post on MooseDroppings.
The Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University and the surrounding community are overwhelmed with the burgeoning deer herd that basically grows unchecked in the natural habitat within a very urban environment of Raleigh North Carolina. A plan to allow bow hunting to help control this growing problem has been met with much opposition over the past few years so a new plan has been devised. This past year a student wrote up a proposal to use a small semi free roaming pack of wolves to help control the deer population. Under this project wolves will be fitted with a GPS equipped collar and a shocking device that will discourage them from leaving the campus. Read the rest of the story
A citizens complaint about a hearing a gun shot and finding a gut pile in Maud Jones Memorial Forest was all Officer William Boudreau of the NH Fish and Game had to go on but some clever detective work and a bit of luck he busted his poacher. The gut pile was from a doe and the drag marks led into a locked University of New Hampshire gravel pit where it was obvious the doe was loaded into a vehicle. A check of the local tag stations reveled that no one had tagged a doe in that day. The Rest of the Story

In what is being pitched as a way to attracted & retain hunters NC Wildlife is proposing sweeping changes to current regulations including the elimination of Archery & Muzzleloading seasons on private property. They will instead leave the weapon choice up to the private landowner/ hunter. To read more about this check out my full story on these sweeping changes.
