Saw a forky and a spike this am.... on my way into work at 4:30 am. lol Yes the rut is sometime between vetrens day and thanks giving most years. I can't wait. These deer just aren't moving too much during the daylight hours right now. The weather is great and it is nice and cool out. Lots of tracks too. damn ghost deer anyway. I'm hoping to catch one all love sick before I hit a hundred hours this year. I didn't cash in until December 2nd last year. Well congrats on your buck. None of them come easy bow or rifle. But if it wasn't for the ole rifle I'd be eating tag stew a little more often.

Any luck? That's funny that you been seeing all those deer while driving - if only one would trot out in front of you while you're sitting in the tree stand, eh?

Hope all is well with the your little guy.

Is that 5 day weekend gonna involve any hunting time. stupid question. What about a hunting report so far? Haven't heard from you in awhile. What's been up?

Well looks like I'm only getting a four day weekend. I can't turn down overtime. As for the hunting so far not bad. I took a nice pair of doe so far. one with my bow one with the muzzle loader. My brother in law got a nice ten point, 203 lbs. Dad in law got a pair of weird four points one was a spike with two sticker points like an inch and a half long, the other was a nice heavy four point with a 15 inch spread and like 8 inch g-2s. weird stuff but cool. I got a look at a nice buck when I was headed into my stand one morning but no shot. still on the lookout. Hows your season so far? (Check out the pics of the ten point if you get a chance. Chuck

Wow! Sounds your season is off to a great start. Mine is going ok. Killed two small bucks so far. Saving my last antlered tag for a bruiser. I need to start stacking up does. Will try to start doing that next week. I'll take a look at the buck right away.

I haven't got a look at any bucks yet. but I took a couple nice doe with my bow and my muzzle loader. My Brother in law got a nice ten point 203 lbs dressed. I've spent 64 hours in my stand so far and just can't get a look at a buck. They will be there in a few weeks.lol Hows everything going with your season?

That's right - it's all about persistance! Although, 64 hours in the stand - it starts to wear thin after a while! Congrats to your brother in law - some good meat for the feezer. I'm all out of tags over here - Oregon's seasons run tight together and not very long - I didn't get an elk during archery season, and I shot a small forked horn buck during rifle season. I was pretty excited as it's my first animal in four long years! Was the first hunt I'd been on with a rifle in four years too - I don't think it's a coincidence that those two numbers are the same, either. I've decided bow hunting - while a huge rush - is really hard!

Good luck the rest of the season - the rut should be kickin' in soon, right?

He's a rifle guy. Haven't got him into bow hunting yet. I'm not sure if I would go after them again with a bow. I double lunged the one I got last fall and didn't get hardly a drop of blood. It's very thick woods up here. He didn't go far at all, but I had all I could do to find him. It was more of a knowledge of the terain that helped me find him. I would just hate to lose an animal that I know I put a good hit on.

Howd the bear hunt go? Of has it went down, yet?

Also, judging from the other comments here, it seems to me that a congratulations is in order! Exciting! This is the first, correct? Hope everything is going well in the little guys new life!
