Early season in Kentucky seems to be hotter every year. I've got a couple of friends from out of state that won't even come down 'til mid to late October because of the heat and humidity. Well, for me the chance to get back in the woods and see the wildlife come early September is enough to get me out there. Although, that nice cool air conditioning can be pretty persuasive when it's 85 out with 75-80 percent humidity.
The deer don't know what AC is and still gotta eat so I wondered how the high temps would affect how much I saw of them. They were not shy Saturday! After a day with the high around 93 degrees, deer started moving about Six o' clock pm on thru nightfall. I was fortunate enough to watch a beautiful 9 pont graze for a half hour or so along with three other does. Not quite a shooter this year, but he's got great potential! Around dark a few more does and a couple of scrub bucks showed up. Did I mention I'm watching corn piles and mineral licks? Thankfully it's legal to bait in Kentucky. I think this gives a hunter a great opportunity to be selective about what he/she takes.
Back to the heat, I'm sure all of us local hunters will be glad as summer turns to Autumn bringing with it all the familiar sights and sounds. Has it been hotter this year than last? I'm not sure but I don't think I'll stop hunting during early season anytime soon. I believe the early season provides vast opportunities for those that are willing to sweat it out! After what I saw Saturday, I'll have to say that I don't believe that deer are just laying up waitin' for winter. Hot or not, they gotta eat! Hope all this sweating pays off eventually!

This is my first time on any kind of "space thingy". Came across this site and found it to be very fitting. Started the season on Sept. 6 and was able to get a monkey off my back. After trying for about 4 years I was able to take a nice Tom with my bow. Finally! Nice bird, 21.5 lbs with an 11" beard. Now that I've shared that, I think I will try to figure out other stuff on this page. Thanks for reading and happy hunting!
