Recently I was shown a home video of a bear hunt some local guys went on up north. It was quite a hunt with a sow coming into a bait station at about 15 yards of the waiting hunter. As the sow fed you catch a glimpse of the hunters bow coming to full draw and WHACK!! She didn't go any where. Heres the problem with this story. On the other side of the sow is her cub. The archer made a great shot on the mom and the pass thru also hit her cub. You see the little guy run up the nearby tree and then seconds later falls and dies next to his/her mother. I don't have a problem shooting any gender of animal. However, when we as hunters unethically take an animal that is totally irresponsible. I've let numerous does walk because our Missouri bow season starts Sept. 15 when most of the little ones still have spots. I've watched deer nurse right under my stand. Shooting the doe kills the babies. What if this video I'm referring to winds up all over the internet? Well, we're just giving ever anti in the nation fuel for their fires! Hunters were the first conservationist in this land and we should all act like it.

A buddy of mine recently told me there is a new scoring system for turkeys. This involves weight, beard length, spur length etc...... I understand scoring big game animals and put every effort in managing the land I hunt for trophy whitetails. Most mature gobblers in my southern part of Missouri weigh 20 to 23lbs. If we start scoring turkeys that would mean most 3 to 4 year old birds would be "record book" quality. If any of you have heard about this I would like to hear your opinions. My two cents on this matter is that the real trophy on a turkey is located somewhere in the breast. Most of you probably could care less about this but my turkey season starts on Monday and I am itching to hunt so this is how I'm killing time waiting.

I really don't like stupidity!! I know not many people do and I've probably been guilty of being stupid a time or to. However, I was recently talking to my dad about the upcoming Missouri turkey season and he couldn't find his decoy. He figured out that his ex-wife who hated everything to do with our sport had thrown it away!! This is coming from a woman who has no problem with going to the grocery store to buy a dead bird to eat. I guess if you don't actually witness the killing of the meal it is a little less dead, right? Just wanted to sound off on something I find really, really stupid.
