My father was deer hunting one morning years back when we heard several calls for help in the woods somewhere nearby. Only club members were allowed on the property, so he recognized that the cries for help were coming from one of the teenage members. When he arrived to his aid what he saw was absolutely priceless. Lemme just tell you what this boy did.
He forgot to tie off the foothold portion of his treestand to the top seat portion and inevitably after he got situated up in the tree the bottom part broke loose and fell all the way to the bottom of the tree.
Realizing the situation he was in he immediately concocted a plan. He noticed a smaller sapling next to the tree he was in and figured that he could spring off of his stand and leap onto the sapling which should gently bend and safely drop him off on the ground. Sounds like it could work right? Well, maybe except for one thing. He had forgotten that he was wearing a safety strap tied off to his tree so when he leapt towards the sapling he came just short of reaching it before he was snapped back and slammed into the tree from whence he came. At this point, he has slung his tree stand around to the other side of the tree and was dangling below by the strap that held him to the tree! I can't remember how my father got him down. I don't think I heard the rest of the story through my snorts and chuckles.
