Depends on where you are man. I heard castle hill has some awesome bears, and a good population of them too. Last week of August is prime, because it's the first week! You going with a bow or a gun?
I'm taking both, I want to try the first few days with my bow then after that I'll switch over to the gun. Any good tips for a first timer?
Hmmm, not really other than practice shooting at distances between 10-30 yards...almost in the dark. I did this all Summer with my bow, and it proved vital on September 1st...that bear came in at almost legal light, and I sent one into the boiler room. It's going to be like shooting a shadow, so know your query, and make it count!
