This year was a special year for me. This year was my daughter Jade's first year she could carry a loaded gun and participate in the Nebraska Youth Pheasant season. It is a special two day season that only kids 15 and younger can participate in and must be accompanied by a legal adult with a valid hunting license. Well things picked up this weekend. Friday afternoon I was settled in by 1 PM, 2 large fawns came bounding in, spooked out by a gas well maintenance crew. Almost shot one thinking it was the adult doe, they were rather large, but I ended up passing on them. 3.5 hours later a real nice 2.5 year old buck emerged from the thicket about 35 yds away and proceeded to thrash a tree and head on his way. After breakfast was done we took some time to relax outside and talk. The kids decided to challenge each others driving skills in the Bad Boy Buggie. After they finished their driving challenge we gave them the choice to choose between Old Fashioned Horseshoes, or the "new version". You can tell what the kids chose.
