bout same with me we just got back from illinois, my brother atleast shot a decent one, they were mainly movin at night, it got colder last 4 days they finally started to move, just could not make it happen, get to go huntin again here in a few weeks,
It was pretty interesting actually, there were pockets where it was hard to see a deer and then there were areas where you wouldn't even know that EHD was in the area. The place I hunt is where I grew up and there is a lot of land...probably over a thousand acres where we can hunt, and I saw all kinds of deer throughout bow and gun season but the funny thing is that I'm seeing less deer this year. My theory is that through the hunting pressure of last year and the constant movement of bucks in the rut, that were was a significant number of deer that relocated and the dispersement dropped some of the numbers where they were dense before. How about your area...I know there were a lot of guys upset about overharvest of does in combination with the disease but I don't know where those areas really were. I'm fine with the amount of doe permits in our area but I know there are some guys north and east that were pretty upset about it.
Where I live in SE PA we are thick with deer, but everything is very subdivided so finding property to hunt is difficult. The competition is pretty bad too because there are a lot of hunters and not a lot of huntable land. If you can find a place to hunt the hunting is pretty good though.
I rifle hunt in Somerset County and won't don't see nearly as many deer as we used to because of the antlerless allocations, but the quality of bucks is much better. I don't shoot doe over there anymore, but it's a good trade off for the quality of bucks we are seeing
Well, I live in Washington County and I hunt here and Greene county.
Washington County has got some good bucks in it. How is your area looking in Greene. I know a lot of Greene county got hit pretty hard by blue tongue last year. Is everything starting to bounce back?
