Turkey season is among us in Maryland. Remember to stay quiet, don't move and cover up.

Spring tip: Make the lead hen fight you in your calls and she will come after you. The gobbler will chase the lead hen and that is how you get them henned up gobblers to come out and play :)

Have fun and send post up some good pics.

I've done pretty good so far. I killed one opening day but that was just pure luck. Saturday I had a bird gobbling his head off and called him in about 60 yards but he never came any closer. We lease 3000 acres just past Royal Blue and they've been gobbling pretty good so maybe you'll kill a big one this weekend

I had a chance to lease some paper company land years ago up that way but passed on it. I think the land was in the Elk Valley area.

Yeah that's exactly where we are at. We've managed it for about 8 years. We only kill 8 pt or better and now we bring out 3 or 4 monster bucks a year. Last year I killed two 8 pts and a 13 pt. It's really nice land but it's pretty hard to hunt. Especially when it comes to turkey hunting.
Have you had much trouble keeping the locals off the property. The land we looked at was getting a lot of local hunting pressure.

How has your turkey season gone so far? It's been slow for me so far. Haven't worked a hot bird yet. Maybe this weekend it will get better. Heading up to Royal Blue. Check out my gallery there's a picture of a Timber Rattler I saw Friday.
