It is a Sika. They were brought to Dorchester County backin 1906, and are actually small elk that are native to Japan, Formosa and the East Asian main land. 6 were turned turned loose on James Island, a small Island off Dorchester county. Offspring swam from the island ans spread form there. Thei are much smarter and harder to hunt than any whitetail. They are definetly a challenge.

See you are from NM, and I was in Santa Fe and that area for about seven years....good country! But I grew up in FL, and appreciate the swamps and acean fishing...where were you in NM? I've lived around NY too, but not to like it so much..goood huntin, friend!
