I have been a posessed hunter since I purchased my first hunting license in 1977. As a kid, I hunted mostly upland game and waterfowl. I loved training bird dogs and have had a long list of successful flushing/retrieving spaniels throughout my hunting career.
Recently, due to my job as a Regional Animal Control Officer, I have been assigned the task of dealing with livestock and pet predation complaints and discovered that I have a passion for predator calling. I also saw an opportunity to actually get paid in the process and fullfill a lifelong dream of being a professional hunter...
Eastern Coyotes, in my opinion, are the ultimate trophies here in the New England states. They are big, aggressive, and about as intelligent as any game species gets...If you can call and kill a coyote...You've earned my respect...
My weapon of choice for coyotes, fox, bobcat, deer, turkeys, waterfowl, and just about everything else, is the same weapon I have been using since 1985, a Browning BPS 'Stalker' 3-1/2 inch 10-gauge shotgun...I like to call predators "up close and personal" followed by two-and-a-half ounces of hardcore hurt...The shotgun I speak of is pictured in the coyote photo...I only recently added the 24 inch special field barrel replacing the 30-inch factory barrel...
I've devoloped skills over the years in the preparation and cooking of wild game.I make a honey glazed apple stuffed roast goose that'll blow your mind...My family will attest to that as it has become a holiday tradition. My wife makes a turkey pot pie and a venison barley stew to die for...As a general circumstance, I hunt alone...Not always my choice, but it just works out that way with work schedules and what not, and I do enjoy it immensely... I also collect camouflage clothing...Folks who've seen my closet say I have enough camo and various patterns to outfit a regiment...but I always have to have the newest pattern...just a weakness I guess...I'm a firm believer in ghillie suits and tent blinds. Both hold places of honor in my arsenal...
I once lost my beloved 10 gauge when a canoe I was in tipped during a winter goose hunt. I thought it was gone forever, committed to the deep...but after a gruelling search of several hours it was miraculously located, recovered, and returned to me by a friend (I still owe you man!)... After a meticulous cleaning, the old "sledgehammer" was good as new... I'll never make that mistake again, nor forget how I allowed it to happen. Boy, was I lucky...Live and learn...For a short while, the gun's nickname was changed from "sledgehammer" to "excalibur"... We joked that it was returned by the "Lady of the Lake"...I swear...Browning could make a commercial about what that gun has gone through...It has been the ultimate workhorse.
I'm also a singer/songwriter with a steady performance booking schedule..check out my stuff and where I'll be appearing at myspace.com/danchauvin...Daniel Lee Martin isn't the only guy hunting and singing his way through life...But he DOES have his own show on the Sportsman's Channel...If you're in the neighborhood, drop by one of my shows and say "hello"..It'd be my pleasure.
My wife and I have been together for many many years,(twenty three to be exact) and are native New Englanders all the way! This is our home and we do LOVE it here..(although politically Massachusetts is a big, friggen, mess) We presently live in the house I grew up in, built by my grandfather back in 1946 after my Dad returned from the war in the South Pacific and married my Mother..I'm the youngest of seven children..My family and my New England roots are important to us, and we someday hope to retire and buy a place in Southern Vermont where I can spend the rest of my days hunting, fishing, and minding my own business...
If you happen to be havng any problems with coyotes or other predators, feel free to contact me with any questions you might have...I love to talk predators...
Thanx for visiting my site and drop by again sometime...and remember...When you hunt... HUNT HARD and TAKE NO PRISONERS!
Pals,
Daniel
