I would like to talk a little bit about outdoor related websites.
I will start out with the fact that most outdoors men and women today are very tech savvy. With that said, if you own an outdoor related business it is in your best interest to keep your website up to date with all the modern bells and whistles available on the net today. The things that can be done on a website nowadays are limited only by the imagination of the web designer and the web site owner. Basically if you can dream it up, it can be done!! Let me give you a couple examples of a good outdoor related website, and a bad outdoor related website.
Let's talk a little about the basics of a good web site. Outdoor web sites tend to have lots of photos on them, make sure that they are good photos, fuzzy and pixelated images are a HUGE turn off to potential customers. Your site should be nice and neat and easily navigated, your website is your 24/7 brochure representing your company. Something else that should be avoided are cheap looking little animatedGIF images from days gone by. Don't get me wrong, animation is fine, if done right. Flash and Java-script open lots of doors for getting some very professional results.
There are a few things that can really make your website stand out above the competition, such as good photo galleries, daily hunting and fishing reports, embedded Google maps of locations and driving directions to name a few. The things that can be done to spice up a boring website and keep your visitors interested are unlimited if done right.
Let's talk a bit about hosting your website, there are tons of shady hosting companies out there that are more than willing to take your money and run. My personal reccomendation is to shop around a bit. There are many things to take into consideration when shopping for a good host. You want to make sure that your host has the latest php and mysql versions installed on thier servers, you also want to make sure that the bandwidth and storage limits are going to meet your needs. I personally reccomend two main hosting companies, Fat Cow and Siteground. Both have pluses and minuses depending on the website you are going to host with them.
If anyone is interested in talking further about your website needs, please feel free to
