Northern Missouri Coyote Calling
Posted On 04/05/2009 09:19:59 by moladihunter

I thought I'd write a little about the coyote calling contest I help organize here in Northern Missouri.

It started out a little over 4 years ago when myself and several others were thinking about starting a predator hunting club. We decided not to form the club cause we didn't want to deal with the electing of officers and the other politics involved. But most of us stuck together and started putting on annual calling contest. Some how I got nominated(thanks hubby) to do the advertizing of the events since I knew a little bit about the computer.

We have held 4 annual big hunts and a couple of jackpot hunts. We started with our 4th annual hunt donating 10% of the entry fees to charity. This year we are talking about donating 10% of the entry fees to the widow and small child of Tad Allen. He had participated in almost every hunt we had organized.

In the first 3 annual hunts we were able to get a rifle donated for give away. Last year we had to prorate the entry fees for the purchase of the rifle. We are hoping to get one donated this year.  Since the beginning had gotten donations from local business for door prizes. We make sure everyone gets a prize.

We are also trying to arrange to have a fur buyer on site the evening of the hunt.

In the first 3 annual hunts we had about 20 or so participants. We increased to 42 in our 4th annual hunt. We are renting larger facilities for the next hunt. Below is my write up about the 4th annual hunt:

This years event held on January 24th was the most successful yet. We had 42 entries in all.
This year the 14 members of the committee who organizes the event decided to make a change. They voted to designate 10% of the entry fees to the local food pantry. Before the winners of the event were announce a person from the Harrison County Food Pantry was there to accept the donation. We donated $168.

The first place winners was team #1. They won $376 bringing in 4 coyotes and 1 fox

Second place was won by team #28. They won $292 with 4 coyotes.

Third place was won by team #17. They won $168 with 3 coyotes.

Big Dog was won by team #17. They won $390.
Little Dog was won by team # 15. They won $380.
Mange Dog was won by team # 28. They won $350.

The winner of the rifle was Brad Allen.

19 teams killed. With the total of 27 coyotes, 3 fox and 3 bobcats.

We also had a visit from Keith Mark of MacMillen River Adventures. They did some filming of the event. And spoke to everyone about the need of predator control and letting the nonhunters know the hunting tradition is still alive. This will be aired this fall on their show on the Outdoor Channel.

We greatly appreciate the 30 different businesses and individuals who donate the door prizes and added money. We also thank all those who furnished the meal for the hunters and guest Saturday night.

Everyone had a safe hunt and met lots of new people. We will post next years hunt once a date has been set.

We have set the date for the 2010 hunt. January 23rd,2010.Since we rely on donations for doorprizes I have been working on getting sponsors in the industry. In the past 2 years Coyote Doctors have donated dvd's to the event. No donation is too small.I have already gotten donations or agreements of donations from:

Tad Brown with Flambeau Outdoors-Lone Howler Decoy

Phantom Calls-Calls

Quaker Boy Calls-Calls and decals

F&T Furharvesters Trading Post-$50 in gift certificates towards the purchase of prizes

If anyone in the industry in interested in donating to the event they can contact me at northernmissouricalling@yahoo.com. Or if you would like more information on the hunt or would like to be put on the emailing list contact me at the same email address.

I will post more information thru out the year as we get closer to the event.
