Hunters for the Hungry Raffle hunt

A Story of Firsts This story begins on August 9, 2008.  The first in many things in a line of firsts was that I shot my very first 3D tournament with my bow club, the Belvoir Bow Hunters at their annual Hunters for the Hungry 3D shoot.  This annual Belvoir Bow Hunters, Hunters for the Hungry shoot raises money for that great program that helps feed the less fortunate in the state.  All money raised at this shoot is either from cash donation or from the raffle.  This year the club raised about $3600 dollars for Hunter for the Hungry.  Now lets get onto the next first.  For the last couple of years I have always made my way to the sportsmen show in Richmond in August to buy raffle tickets for the ATV.  But, this year I also bought raffle tickets for the hunt raffle.  So, the winning ticket was drawn for the ATV and it wasn’t mine.  Now sometime has gone by, it’s about the end of the first week of September and I noticed that I had some new voicemails on my home phone.  I listened to the messages, Gary Arrington from Hunters for The Hungry had left me three messages telling me t hat I had won the first prize in the hunt raffle for a trip for two to Texas on a whitetail deer hunt.   So, Gary and I played phone tag for another week.  We finally made contact and I got all the details about my hunt.  The hunt was with Panther Creek Ranch in Doss, Texas.  The Panther Creek Ranch is run by Reggie and Cindy Loeffler.  After talking to Gary I thought about asking to switch my hunt for the bear hunt, but then decided that I would take my wife.  This was a chance to get her, her first deer.  Our hunt was going to take place from January 1 to January 4 2009.  I had a long time to wait to go on my hunt.  The hunt almost didn’t happen because I had to get my roof replaced on my home.  I didn’t think that I was going to come up with the money for the two Texas hunting licenses and the airfare.  So, lets get back to the list of firsts I was talking about.  With this trip to Panther Creek Ranch, it was going to be my wife’s and my first time on an airplane.  It was also our first time hunting outside the state of Virginia.  Now lets talk about our time in Texas.  We got to camp and met Reggie and his wife Cindy, along with a couple of other hunters that were also there.  We also met Max and Stacy Rowe from Just Kill’n Time TV, who also were native Virginians.  It’s now January 1, our first day to hunt.  Reggie took us out and put us in a box blind.  When the sun came up there were deer everywhere but no good bucks.  Later that afternoon in a different blind, my wife took a nice 9 point buck with my T/C Encore.  Now what makes this special is that this is my wife’s first buck (first deer also).  On the second afternoon I took my buck.  I would like to thank all the people that made this happened.  Gary Arrington (Hunter for the Hungry), Reggie and Cindy (Panther Creek Ranch), and Max and Stacy Rowe (Just Kill’n Time TV).  I would also like to give a special thanks to Stacy Rowe for filming my wife’s management Doe hunt.  Now for the last first, both of our deer will be mounted by Harold McGuire of McGuire’s Taxidermy.  So, if you want a great hunt with great people that treat you like family instead of a customer, contact Reggie at WWW.Panthercreekranch.com.  For a great down to earth working man’s huntin’ show watch Just Kill’n Time TV.  Last but not least, help support the Hunter for the Hungry and all they do for the less fortunate to keep them fed all year long.  In ending you can bet that all my spare money will go to support the Hunters for the Hungry, either in cash donations or for the raffles, along with any extra deer meat that I might have.  Thanks for letting me share my story of firsts.
