I've found that sometimes the subtle difference in our attitude, which of course can make a major difference in our future, can be as simple as the language we use. The difference in even how you talk to yourself or others. Consciously making a decision to quit saying what you don't want and to start saying what you do want. I call that faith. Believing the best, hoping for the best and moving toward the best, will eventually surround you, with the best!

 

Instead of saying "What if somebody doesn't respond", start saying, "What if they do respond?" Instead of saying "What if someone says no?" say, "What if they say yes?" Instead of "What if they start and quit?" say, "What if they start and stay?" or "What if it doesn't work out?" You say, "What if it does work out?" ...The list goes on.

 

I found that when you start thinking and saying what you really want,

then your mind automatically shifts and pulls you in that direction. And sometimes it can be that simple, just a little twist in vocabulary that illustrates your attitude and philosophy.

 

Our language can also affect how others perform and behave around us. A teenager says to a parent, "I need money." And if the parents learn to say, "No comprehende. That kind of language doesn't work here. We've got plenty of money, but that's not how you get money." Then you teach your teenager how to ask, "How can I earn money?" Nothing in life is free. You have to earn your keep, you have to earn a living & most of all, you have to learn to respect others, and yourself. The more you learn to respect yourself, the more you will grow in a positive direction.

 

That's the magic of words. There is plenty of money here. There is money for everybody in this world, but you just have to learn the magic words to get it for everything & anything you could possibly want. If you just learn the philosophy. How could I earn money? You can't go to the soil and say, "Give me a harvest." If the soil could talk, it would say, "WTF??? Who is this clown that brings me his need and brings me no seed??." If you said to the soil, "I've got this seed and if I plant it, would you work while I sleep?" The soil says, "No problem. Give me the seed. Go to sleep and I'll work while you sleep." Life is pretty much the same. You need to plant seeds & watch them grow. There's no such thing as just add water & you have a tree. if there was, you wouldn't respect that tree. You wouldn't respect the fact that it  didn't weather any storms. It didn't survive through extreme heat, extreme cold. You didn't get to watch it lose its leaves, then grow them again. Everything in this world takes time. Here's a little poem I wrote years ago. It always reminds me that I can't have everything when I want it. Eventually through perserverance, you can have them, It just takes time.

If you just understand these simple principles, teaching them to a teenager (or adult) is sometimes just a matter of language. It's like an investment account instead of a savings account. Simple language, yet so important. It's easy to stumble through almost a lifetime and not learn some of these simplicities. Then you have to put up with all the lack and all the challenges that don't work out simply from not reading the book, not listening to the tape, not sitting in the class, not listening with your heart to messages like this, not studying your language and not being willing to search so you can then find. Here's the great news. You can start this process anytime. It's never too late!

 

For me it was at age 29. At 29 I was broke despite my "extra curricular activities" in New York City. I didn't know where I was going with my life. I was tired of living the way I was & I knew if I didn't make a change, I wouldn't be happy or much worse, dead! A few years later I decided to go to school again, and after 7 years, I accumulated 8 valid licenses ranging from NYC crane operator, burner, fire guard, powder actuated tools, welding, CDL, to scaffolding & O.S.H.A certs under my belt. Somebody once asked, " Mike, What kind of revolution, what kind of change, what kind of thinking, what kind of magic had to happen? Was it you?" And I say, "Yes, any person, any seven years, 36 to 42, 50 to 56. Whatever seven years; whatever few years you go on an intensive, accelerated personal development curve, learning curve, application curve, and learning the disciplines needed to keep you on the road to success, it can be achieved. It took extreme sacrifice for me. I was no angel and I don't portray myself to be anything other than a human being. I made mistakes all the way down the path I am on today. That is why I am placing signs for you to read, to learn, to comprehend. I don't want you to travel the same road as I did, with out these warning signs I'm leaving on the way. Now, it might not take the same amount of time, I'm sure each person will have different results. However, I'm telling you for me. I was in a crazy lifestyle. After hours, bars, drinking, illegal activities to make a buck, always looking over my shoulder. Friends were dying, being put in jail and to be honest, it scared me. It scared me to think that I was going to lose control & follow in their footsteps.

 

I never really got a good night sleep thinking the the cops are going to kick my door open at any minute & cart me away. I'm glad it's all over. I'm glad that I was given the opportunity to change my life. It was a long journey. It taught me one thing that's the most important thing in my life at this time. I have instilled into myself, that I will never fear another challenge again in life. I will never be afraid to try and to fail, to learn new things, to apply the knowledge I learned in my "street life" to help me on my way to success. I fear NOTHING! The same changes and the same rewards in some different fashion are available for those who pay that seven year price. You have to pay your dues. It takes dedication. Nobody is going to come to your house, knock on your door to offer you the dream job of a lifetime, or millions of dollars so you can relax the rest of your life. That's all a fantasy!!! Snap out of it!!!! It's time for you to change your language. You might find that whether it's in the beginning to help get you started, or in the middle to keep you on track, that your language can have a great impact on your attitude, actions, the people around you, the luck that you are blessed with and eventually, your personalized, varied, successful results. That chill you get down your spine when you read this, is your internal compass, guidance system, radar, trying to suggest the path you should take. Never give up on yourself, never give up on your dreams. If it takes till your last dying breath, pursue what makes you happy. I'm leaving a trail for you to follow. If you cannot see it, I will take you by the hand and lead you. Trust me, you won't get lost.
