Surf Fishing Assateague, VA
Posted On 06/27/2008 17:39:47 by DelawareSportsman
Just got back from vacation on Chincoteague Island, VA. Stayed at Dove Winds in a two bedroom condo; very affordable and close to the beach. We surf fished Assateague on June 17,18, and 19th. Weather was great (not too hot and not too cold !). Caught several Kingfish off the beach, along with one spot, a small trout and numerous skates. Tried several baits, but the winner was Fishbaits bloodworm strips. We did catch a few Kings on cut bait, but the Fishbaits worked the best by far (as I told my son "next best thing to sliced bread"). All fish caught on bottom hook of a double rig bottom setup.

Go to Capt. Steves Bait and Tackle on Maddox Blvd. near the traffic circle at Maddox Campground (stevesbaitnadtackle.com). Talk to Jimmy and he'll set you on the fish. We met him at the store and then he showed up on the beach  next to us on his lunch hour to do some fishing. He's a great guy and very knowledgable about the fishing on the island.

Great trip, try it if you're in the area.

Mike
