Fred Bears Field Notes
Bowhunting Pressured Whitetails
Mostly hunting magazines, I don't have the attention span to read a thick book.

I love to bow hunt everything with a longbow.
Fishing once in a while during warm weather but love it better over ice.
I like to camp and hike.
Skateboard on occasion and teach archery to youth.
Music feeds the soul.
Love the Lord but refuse to be a stiff about it, God wants us to enjoy life!

Nah, get away from the tube!!! Well....except if it's a good hunting flick.

Anyone that faces each day head on and refuses to quit.

Tell Dave to whack a big one!! Tried to call his phone this evening but I bet he's running around like mad getting ready.

He was a total wreak last night. I'm not sure he knew what his cell phone was or how to answer it. Actually he probably forgot to turn the ringer back on after hunting. We do that all the time. Hard to remember.

I got to talk with him today as he was traveling through Madison, Wisconsin. He sounds SOO excited! I really hope he nails a monster especially with that longbow.

Have you been able to get out today or been working on bows?
David was somewhere in N.Dakota when I talked to him last night. He's making good time. Giddy is how I would describe him.
Yes I was working in the shop both yesterday and the day before. I have a kids bow in the press and heat box. Maple and cherry. Should be nice. Have a walnut and osage lower poundage longbow planned to do next. Show bows of course.

How was the hunting Sunday?

Cut a branch in half in the morning and zip for the evening. Was LOTS of people out there. Had a group of guys set up a camp at one of my good spots but I went in around the backside of them. Had a ton of deer push through right before light and my only shot was at a doe. She was truckin' and I tried to lead the shot. I make a better indian than cowboy, LOL!
LOL

Arrrggh this shift stinks!! But it is work so I can't complain too much.

Pretty much had a body meltdown after hunting so hard basically since August with the start of bear baiting. I slept all day today until the kids got home from school. Jeir said she was waiting to see how long it would be before my body called it quits. The mind wants to keep going but the flesh is weak,LOL!

Had b-day dinner with Jr. and went off to work. Keeping logged in while I clean the daycare to have some music going. BTW garbage cans full of dirty diapers would be a great form of birth control.

I feel like I am about to crash also but can't until Dec. 15 after the elk hunt Have a great night

I can't wait till your elk hunt!! Gotta bring back some 4ft backstraps,LOL!

Hey I sold my JavaMan so I can get the Jeep going. I did ok on the sale especially the way things are on the classifides. I've done lots of selling in there and have built a good rep so I think it helps.

Do you still have that green bow Dick cut into 3 pieces? If so I wanna mess around with it if you aren't planning on messing with it yourself. I think I can turn it into a 3 piece "super shorty". I would have to sand the heck out of the limbs though to actually use it cause the draw weight would be insane after I'm done. Still would be fun to shoot and who knows we may have something new to offer.

I should have told you to grab that box full of leather too. I sewed up the leather grip and did quite a good job on it. The stitches are small and pretty even, I used dental floss for the thread. My mom is super wicked good at sewing and made sure I knew how to before leaving the house. Could come in handy! The worst part was sticking myself with the needle trying to push through the leather. Need a thimble! Funny how that thin piece of leather can make such a difference. It feels warm to the touch compared to that bare wood riser.

I'm totaly rambling on!! I've drank a pot of coffee so far and it seems to be working, LOL!
Tracey and I have been kicking some ideas around on the take dowwn as well. The next time I see you I will get you the pieces we have here. Talk to you soon planning an all day hunt for saturday before the gun opener

So hard when your little boy grows up. It only gets harder with every year. Cherish every minute with him.

Can you do me a favor and help me out on Facebook with Mafia Wars. I need a better Mafia, I'm getting my butt kicked.

Great job on that deer despite the eye, I could tell Sunday you were not feeling well. Heal up soon lady there is lots more of them to put down.

I'm hoping to spend more time with the longbow now that I've contributed to the meat stockpile. If the eye continues to improve maybe I can get a chance at something with my St. Joe RiverBow.

OMG! The day you get one with your trad gear I will flip out! Still, getting one with your wheels despite whats been going on is the same as far as difficulty. I know you won't have any problems with your SJR once your healed up.

Have you done any more work to your bow that you've been working on?
Been scared to work on it, as I'm down to the fine detail work. Hard to see file marks to sand out right now. I saw the Dr. yesterday and he backed me down on the eye drops and warned me my vision may get worse again before it gets better.
