Title: The Hadley Farm Hunter
Tags:
Blog Entry: Well folks the rifle season has finally begun here in Maine so it's time to head out to the Hadley Farm as often as I can. Opening day was Oct 31st so our crew (Joe T, Mike C, Cecil G., Marty B.,) and myself, Wayne C all gathered in camp Friday afternoon. It sure was great to be back at camp with them all again. We made a water run friday afternoon in my brother Mike's new BMX 4x4 buggy. it was great crusing along and checking things out. The spring we get our water from is about 10 - 15 miles away from our camp so we took a 410 with us and shot a couple partridge while out on the water run. Saturday Oct 31 - Opening Day up before dawn and we headed out North of 9 for the moring hunt. The temp was warm nearly 50 degrees out and the wind was just a whistlin. No luck finding any deer however we did spot 2 young moose fist thing so that was rather neat to start the day. The afternoon hunt wasn't any better as far as the deer go but we were able to cross one area off out possible areas to hunt. One of the guys, Cecil , ended up on a walk about that took him in the opposite direction of where we expected him to come out. Now Cease is known for this type thing. Last year he and I went to hunt an area while the rest of the crew decided to go North of 9 and check out a small area we hunt from time to time. Well it's getting to just about dark 30 and no Cecil. I try calling him on the radio, no answer. I drive up & down the dirt road, a couple miles or each way, no Cecil. Well we finally find him around 6 - 630 and he had gone about 8 miles from where I had last seen him and someone else gave him a ride back to the Hadley farm. Seems like we always have one or two adventures each season that provides fodder for the crew for several seasons. We all have a really good time and lots of laughs so everyone takes the ribbin in stride. November 5 This week has been a wash for hunting, too much happenin with work an stuff. Hoping to get out in the morning for a bit and the again on Saturday. Next week is a total wash for me as I leave Sunday for a week of EMS training in Alabama. This was originally scheduled for October but for some reason was changed to Nov 8-13. Well til next time, Good luck to all and be safe out there...
