HEROES
God, my grandparents, and the men and women in the armed forces!!!!
I have no issues with does...as I am a meat hunter...we can't be choosy in New England as you either are into them or not.
Sometimes you can scope the greatest sign and see nothing...sitting for hours...we don't have as many deer per square mile as some states. Trust me...I have some great areas up here...but it does not always work out the way you hope.
I have always wanted to shoot a nice buck(8-12 pointer)...but have taken many tatsy ones to fill the freezer.
My largest deer in the Northeast has been a 6-pointer...and that was my first deer I shot...dressed out at 150 lbs.
I have seen many big ones...just never have had shot opportunities that I felt confident would be a kill shot.
I am hoping someday that the stars will align and that a "big boy" as I call them will present himself for me to get that accomplishment.
I am thrilled when I see so many people across the country on sites like this share pictures of great deer they have harvested...they are truly blessed to live in areas that have great management and quantity of deer. Not saying we don't have nice ones here...you just have to be able to put the pre-season scouting time in to increase the odds.
Part of the issue is always time as well...if I could get more days in the woods, etc...I'm sure the opportunity would have already happened...but the busy part of life always seems to control things.
I appreciate the offer...and may take you up on it someday...
Thanks for stopping by my page. I noticed that you are a GA boy. GA folk are always welcomed to my page. I have family not too far from ya. I have family in Cartersville, Blueridge, and Atlanta. My grandfather help build the dam in Cartersville. Feel free to stop by my page whenever!
No problem Kimosabe...I can relate to your statement...my ex-wife loved game...would run out to my vehicle when I would bring deer home to see the deer...my new wife doesn't want to see it..hear about it...but she ate a venison dinner I made for her when we first met and she stated that it was great and she would of never known it was game.
Perception is reality for most people...who knows where evryone's perceptions come from - bad experiences, here-say, misinformation, fear of the unknown, etc...
The key point is that the biggest killer of women is heart disease...and the American Heart Association highly recommends eating game!!! Due to it being lower in fat and cholesterol, high in iron (which most women need).
When you compare how stanrad meat is raised vs. free-range game and/or organic meat (which game was the original organic meat) game is far more healthier for people to eat and if more people understood it...more would turn their noses at standard meat...with game there are no meat recalls, steroids, growth hormones or issues.
Make sure you debone your venison...and if the weather permits...hang it for at least 3 days before butchering it...the meat will be more tender and mild...then by my cookbbok on www.wildcheff.com and start using my spice and sausage blends...as you will blow people's minds to include your wife's when you make my recipes and season the meat with my fresh herbs...
Remember though - pork does not taste like chicken, beef does not taste like lamb, turkey does not taste like veal...so deer is only menat to tatste like it is supposed to!!!
Bon appetit,
Denny
