I dig it all. It all depends on my mood. I like classical to punk, 80's rock to country... you name it, I listen to it. Maybe Death Metal would be pushing it a bit... I am into the Rascal Flatts, Killers, Unwritten Law, Stabbing Westward, Finger Eleven, Too Much Candy, Travis Road, Audioslave, Toby Keith, Sugarland, Garth Brooks, Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, John Lee Hooker, Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban and many others. (Lately some Sara Evans... some Lonestar... ;)...)

Favorite Band of all time: Queen. There's just something about the music that I get.

I love Peter Benchley, Jack London, Carl Hiaasen and John Steinbeck. I really dig short stories, too. Currently reading "Survive" by Les Straud.

Rugby, hunting, photography, Kymberli, music, camping, comics, coffee, chocolate chip cookies and anything that involves being outdoors. Yes, I mean anything. :)

Big fan of Shark Week on Discovery Channel every year.

I watch a lot of FX's Rescue Me, and I also like Supernatural, Survivorman, Archers Choice, Spirit of the Wild, Realtree Outdoors and just about any archery show on Outdoor Channel.

My parents. My brother. Jim Thorpe. Spider-Man... I mean...he's Spider-Man! The men and women who gave their lives on Sept. 11th and those fighting overseas.

Forest_Crawler is back from an unsuccessful NY bowhunt, but had a great time. Can't wait to get out again!

Born and raised in Geneva, NY. I moved to southern California in 2006. I hunt hard out here and still head back to NY for whitetail season.

I want to soak up as much of life that is has to offer in the shortest time possible. I love my career. My family & friends are very important to me. I can be serious when I need to be... ok, I try to be serious, but I am a wise-ass and I love to make people laugh, so that usually gets the best of me. I have been known once or twice to admit I am wrong, but there is nothing wrong with a good debate.

Al,that .44 can be a fun hunting weapon all in its own right. Hunt it like you would a bow. The difference is you can get a little more range, and the bullet is faster than an arrow, so no string-jumping.

I'll be putting together another hunt down in Tejon in early May next year. Stay tuned, if you're interested. It's one of the most awesome places you'll find in the state, and the hunting is hot too!

In the meantime, take care and keep me posted if you get up this way.

Phillip

My recommendation, for what it's worth, is forget you have the .44. Focus on the bow, and you'll get it done. This is a great time of year to set up on water, and just relax until the shot presents itself. Archery is absolutely the perfect way to hunt hogs on private land.

I don't get down south too often, but next time I do, I may have to look you up. I like me some old scotch.

Ever hunted at the Tejon ranch?

Hi Phillip. No, I have never hunted Tejon Ranch. I was supposed to make it up there this weekend for the Hog Class, but it filled up before I could nail it down. I was set to go for a spring bow hunt there and had family obligations. So now i am planning on hunting the Parkfield area in October or November. Thanks for the advice on the .44 mag. The good thing is I don't have it yet. I have yet to take a handgun class here in California (I was born and raised in NY on whitetails and turkey). I plan on using my bow as much as possible. Have it sighted in for 40 yards right now and will get it to 60 before I go. Just have to practice, practice, practice.

Just watched the Quest video. Great stuff! I shared it with the Facebook community, too. Holly's description of why she hunts was spectacular.

Have a great week and yes, if you make it down this way, look me up. Or, if you go to Tejon and wouldn't mind someone tagging along to photograph and learn from a pro I am game.

Cheers,
Al

P.S. - Scotch is always available. :)

Hey, good luck in Parkfield! Who are you hunting with down there?

Lots of great bucks and boars in the area.

Thanks! I am going to be hunting with a relative of the property owner. The challenge I am faced with is that I will be hunting with archery tackle. I am going to be carrying a .44 mag as a sidearm if I bow hunt or I'll be using a 7mm rifle. I am a born and bred archery hunter so I am up for the challenge.

I loved one of you last posts about culling that big hog and how much work was involved. Maybe I'll get the chance to head north for a hunt sometime. If you eve make it down to the Long Beach area look me up. I'll make sure we have a 15 year old scotch waiting.

Have a great week and happy hunting!

Cheers,
Al Quackenbush

Thanks for the friend invite, and welcome!

Good to see another CA hunter on here, even if you are down in the wrong part of the state! Good luck in the upcoming season! I'm two weeks into archery up here, and have yet to even get out... too much work!
