This past season, during rut, I found a spot where a big whitetail buck was tearing up some big hardwoods, young oak trees and I was in the process of moving a ladder stand and locking it to a tree when he came running through hot chasing a doe. By the time I realized I had my camera, he was pretty far away but look at the rack on that sucker in the picture where I zoomed it in! Nobody got him this year so I know right where I am going to be focusing on hunting next year!

Zoomed in!

And look at these rubs!

He wasn't the biggest buck on the farm but there was no way I'd pass on a buck like that inside bow range!

Nice looking buck. Really like to see bucks with healthy antlers. Nice, symmetrical and not soo big that it affects the bucks' ability to function in the woods. Some here in the South feed high protein diets; the antlers seem to be sooo, big that the I would think that the buck would have problems getting around in the woods.

Here is a slide shows of pictures! Had a great few days down on the farm. Found the buck I stuck and there is a picture in there of how he looked minus his hind quarter section but you can see the hole where I had hit him. And then pictures of my big doe and other trail cam pictures. Checkout all the gobblers we caught on trail cams! I blew a huge hole in the doe with a 12 ga slug but I was using those Brenneke 1 & 3/8 oz Black Magic Magnums!

Finding my Buck!

She was definitely a nice big doe!

A short video I did in the stand right after I got the doe!

The finished Mount!

It will be amazing if he scores on an elk to! He's lucky to have mule deer right on their 85 acres but he got his buck about 3/4 mile down the street on a neighbors property where they had permission. They actually laid out in an old dried up pond to be in the right place for a shot. The elk won't be that easy. They'll have to travel a lot further and definitely have some luck on their side. His dad travels around their area for work and has been doing some scouting to hopefully increase their odds on getting an elk.

My 12 year old nephew Clint made an excellent 210 yard heart shot with a 30-06 on his 1st buck, a nice 5x5 Mulie, Sunday morning 10/18/09 out in South West Colorado, where they live. The 30-06 is the same rifle his grandpa shot his 1st buck with 60 years earlier. His dad took him out hunting and is pictured with him in one of the below photos. He will be going for his 1st Elk next in a few weeks and we are wishing him the Best of Luck! He has been waiting for the day he could go big game hunting for a long time because in Colorado you have to be at least 12 before you can hunt big game.

Congratulations to Clint and to his dad for helping him to get out there and succeed!

Had fun down on the farm for opening day weekend of bow season. Hunted Saturday morning/evening and Sunday morning. Had deer and turkey around several times but only deer close enough to shoot after legal time expired Saturday night and I could not see them. Even after I thought they were gone, I turned on my hat light to climb back down the tree and there were 2 young bucks standing 20 yards away. We got a few new bucks on trail cam to.
