Here is a sample of writers I like: Cormac McCarthy first and foremost, William Gay, Faulkner, Hemingway, Raymond Carver, Richard Ford, Tom Franklin, John Banville, Jim Harrison, Augusten Burroughs, Col. Tom Kelly, Robert Stone--I just noticed there are no female writers here....I can't think of many but a creative writing teacher I had once is really good--Linda Busby Parker. Her novel Seven Laurels is excellent.

kayaking, hiking/mountaineering, writing, selling real estate, spending time with my boy, reading, researching things from history to politics and much in between. Oh and hunting of course.

History channel, Dexter, Rome, Deadwood, Military channel, hunting shows, Mad Men, Entourage, TrueBlood and not much else. I think the boobtube is a major waste of time.

George Washington, Simon Kenton, John Adams, our last President, Sir Edmund Hillary, Jerry Garcia, Anatoli Boukreev (read his The Climb to hear a "different" account of the '96 Everest tradgedy from the one forced upon us in Into Thin Air), any man or woman that dares to live a life that they dream up on their terms.

Bagg_it_Tag_it Check out this mornings blog--11/19/09

I get bored pretty easily--so I've got to change stuff up a lot. But when I get into something, I sort of go overboard.

Thank you for the friend request. Looks like you do a lot of fishing and duck hunting. Nice gallery.

GOOD PETE!!! I can't imagine having the option to even hunt that many birds! We only get 2 a year in the entire state, and now its all gobblers with no hen options. We can't even buy extra tags like we can for deer. They'll have to bring back the winter season eventually and probably ask people to harvest some hens once the sex ratio gets out of control.

Oh yeah! Our turkey population can definitely take a winter season. I think it was all politics, mainly because the Wildlife Resource Comission don't have any biologists in the commission anymore. It was only open in 10 counties out of NC's 100 total counties. Also, it was only for 1 week, the turkey you took would account for one of your spring tags, but you could also take a hen. The funnier thing is that about 6 of those 10 counties came out in the top 10 annual spring harvests for the entire state for the past 2 or 3 years now!

Needless to say, I want the winter season back.

If you took a bird it counted towards the spring bag?! Holy cow. TN must be nuts because we can kill 3 in each county we draw a tag for and they def don't count in the spring bag. 5 counties=15 birds (but I doubt any one person actually can or does do this)

Hey, thanks for adding me, and good luck hunting this year! Let me know if you need a great deal on a Timber Hawk backpack or fanny pack. Go to www.timberhawkgear.com and give me a call at 801 597-0087. Sorry for the advertisement, but I like direct contact with hunters, and I can give people better deals on stuff over the phone, as opposed to ordering directly off the website.
Take care,

Mike

I hear ya on the deer hunting thing. I used to do it in the eighties as a teenager and got out of it. I been a huge duck hunter (my main thing) since I was a kid. BUT...I got into turkey hunting in 01 and it has driven me about nutty. it is by far the most exciting and challenging. Turkey hunting is what got me back into deer hunting. Now I'm about ruined for making a living because there is either always a season or always a season to get ready for.....I guess I'm crazy.

Not crazy just a obesession just like all of us that love hunting springtime birds.

Thank you, Matt! It's very exciting. How have you been?

Doing great. Just trying to get another deer with my bow. Also can't wait to get a fall bird too.

I hear that! I haven't gotten to bow hunt at all so far this year. I bought a new 20 gage and we were loving the dove hunting this year. They took away our winter turkey season; nothing but a bunch of political crap if you ask me! So I am quite jealous that you get to hunt them in the fall!
