At 11 years old, Alli Armstrong of Elizabethtown, Illinois, is already a seasoned hunter. Alli and her family have traveled to 6 states in pursuit of various species of turkey, deer, and elk. Six of her hunts have aired on national television. Alli has recently been awarded an internship with Brenda Potts of Midwest Legacy Marketing. As part of the internship, Alli will be co-hosting a DVD called “Kids Gone Hunting.” Any proceeds from the “Kids Gone Hunting” project will go to Kids Hunting for a Cure.
Alli started hunting squirrels at the age of 5 with her father, Darrick, and was hooked from that day forward. At age 6, she began turkey hunting and harvested 2 double bearded turkeys. In the fall of the same year she managed to take her first deer. Alli’s passion for hunting has only increased as she has gotten older. To date, Alli has taken 17 deer with her shotgun or muzzleloader, 2 deer with her bow and 21 turkeys, 2 of which were double bearded, 2 triple bearded, and a quadruple bearded Rio. Alli’s three best bucks were a 140 inch 8 point, a 130 inch 8 point, and a 132 inch 9 point. At the age of 10, Alli was lucky enough to draw a youth tag for a New Mexico elk hunt where she took a really nice 6x5 bull with her rifle. This hunt aired on Beyond the Lodge in April 2009. Not only did Alli complete one Grand Slam for turkeys in early April of 2009, she managed to start and complete her second Grand Slam in one season.
Alli finds joy in all aspects of nature, from the smallest insect to the largest game animal. Whether it is finding fossils, artifacts, or just playing with a terrapin every outdoor experience is an adventure. Even though she spends every possible moment in the outdoors, Alli has maintained a straight A average for her entire school career.
Alli is passionate about hunting and wants to keep the sport alive by showing kids and their parents how much fun hunting can be. She has already helped several kids get started in the sport and has even demonstrated her gun and archery safety knowledge at local hunter safety classes. Alli is living proof that hunting can be enjoyed at an early age. She is a great inspiration to her little sister, Adriana, who is following in her sister’s boot tracks. Alli was there cheering Adriana on when she harvested her first turkey at the age of 6 and this year when Adriana completed her first Grand Slam at the age of 7. (Sounds familiar) In February 2009, Alli was awarded Female Student of the Year by the National Scholastic Sportsman’s Program. She is also on the NSSP Prostaff. Because of her award, Alli will be featured in an upcoming issue of the NRA magazine. Alli will also be featured in the September 2009 issue of North American Whitetail with pictures of her 3 best bucks.
All of Alli’s hunts have been captured on video and featured on her family’s DVD’s called Armstrongs Outdoors. These DVD’s can be purchased by contacting the Armstrongs at dasa@shawneelink.com or calling (618) 287-8827.
